The new Destiny 2 weekly patch just came out at Bungie, and it lends some fuel to all the fresh new activities for the community to run through, and the reaction has been… let’s say passionate. Solstice went live; Grandmasters Fireteam Ops have their matchmaking (finally!), and product-security improvements abound. Oh, and just in case you want some merchandise, the Bungie store is down on prices. But the players? They are not throwing any confetti.
Now, firstly, welcome to Solstice, the biggest summer event where guardians grind for some sweet glow-in-the-dark armor. But then there are players with some serious bug reports, such as, “no armor drop after finishing an activity.” And the modifiers are just ridiculous, making older activities insanely hard. One brave soul stated that he is getting one-shotted in missions he already beat years ago. Ouch.
This whole situation with Grandmaster Nightfalls matchmaking should, in theory, be an amazing thing-LFG problems solved! But, to hear the players, the modifiers that render some activities borderline unplayable are making things even worse. One guardian said, “How am I supposed to defend the ADU when enemies are teleporting and everything’s exploding?”
Responses to the tweet from Bungie sent riders on a rollercoaster. Some are just seasoned, for example, Marty – after 10 years, leaving. Some are just begging for the vets to be brought back (cough Universal Remote cough). Then, there are the chorus of ‘Bungie doesn’t listen to players’ mixed with complaints about warlocks being nerfed into oblivion and hunters getting a raw deal in PvE.
Sony acquisition drama, paradigm? A player joked, “Congrats on Sony absorbing you. Almost time to turn the lights off!” Pungent penstroke, but with the Marathon announcement, a clear scar is carved for some Destiny loyalists.
But the upbeat bomb is still in effect, and at least some guardians are still hyped, calling Bungie the GOATs (shout-out to Pacheco). Discounts at the store are, after all, better than nothing.
This leads us to the real stuff: Destiny 2 is twitching away. Some players love it; some players are frustrated; some are just… tired. A Solstice and more updates mean an extra chance for Bungie to redeem itself. Or it could very well mean more polarization. But the community won’t take this sitting down.
So, grab your glowstick bag, guardians, because the Solstice is here-bugs and modifiers included. Just, maybe pack some patience and a fireteam for the ride.
