Well, I’m very sorry, but I would have to stop and tell you a little story. In one big Solstice of Dawn with Destiny 2, in the usual manner by any major update, the Destiny community was anything but silent, thinking at the Tower’s bonfire. Following the grand and imposing Solstice 2025 update, portal activities get solar-themed modifiers accessible to all players. Cool, wouldn’t you say? I mean, has Destiny ever been that damn straightforward?

Let’s get straight to the good stuff. So, these Solstice updates hammer out brand-new modifiers for Portal activities that directly influence gameplay. Solar chaos might either brighten your day or add some frustrating unpredictability. Players like Pyro think this: “This stuff actually makes the game fun again.” And hey, I mean, free content is free content anyway, so Bungie went ahead and gave it away for free.

Cue ominous black clouds. Destiny players have done what they do best since the dawn of time: They argued passionately over every tiny detail. The range of complaints varied from loot drop complaints (“The new smg just won’t drop for me at all.” – MrFish331) to balance complaints (“NERF GRAVITON SPIKE FFS” – JamieFoxxo). Shade Durg went on a rant about the grind: “Endless brainless constant farming the same shit, again, and again and again… Yikes.” Tell us how you really feel, Guardian.

The armor drama starts with Umbratilicious actually taking Bungie to task about the Solstice armor being a lie, saying the helmet doesn’t look like the advertised one and shades poorly. Then that sparked a whole thread about whether players should be inspecting items before buying (pro tip: always inspect, folks). Meanwhile, roxiie begged for a shader search tool after claiming she’d spent “2000 of my 7000 hours” trying to find one particular shader. That is…some serious shader hunting.

Another grumble was about the event structure, with Chesse_cz mourning the loss of Bonfire Bash, saying that “dont feel like event anymore.” And GT9Oldschool then went bonkers over difficulty customization, basically asking why is speedrunning the organization’s new obsession. Can’t satisfy anyone but damn, Bungie is really working hard on this theory.

Amid all the sourness, one could also hear some genuinely technical complaints about bugs, such as Solstice Keepsake Memento not appearing (john3888), and the annoyance of Photogalvanic’s SFX being constant (Dalyn Cessac). Then came the traditional Destiny platform wars. SkaiSportss demanded bans for “cheating PlayStation players” in Trials, because some traditions never die.

But beneath all that? There really is some of that love-hate relationship Destiny players really have for this game. And surely, the most angry tweets come from people who clearly care too much to quit. As destinies progress along with Solstice 2025, one thing is for sure: Behind Balancing solar modifiers against player’s expectations, Bungie surely is going to stay hotter than Well of Radiance.
