Death Stranding 2: On the Beach was awarded the Players’ Choice Award for June. And frankly, it was not a tough prediction. Into a crowded market, Kojima’s latest eyeball candy has been doing crazy numbers from day one. Gamers have been gulping down the treat, while still letting it to be termed by some as a “walking simulator” (lol).
Such news was made public on the official PlayStation Twitter account. The replies followed the trend of hype, meme culture, and, finally, a few salty remarks. One player, Tyler Outland, termed the game a “masterpiece” at Episode 6 after 45 hours in. Another named Neo simply posted down a heart emoji and an astonishing screenshot: sometimes less really is more.
It is rather unpopular, though. Hackerboy issued the hot take: “blue checkmarks D riding this walking simulator,” which… well, okay. TheNamana98 replied, “It’s perfection. Oyy!” followed by an absolutely gorgeous in-game capture. Such is the duality of gamers.
The praise for Death Stranding 2 went deeper beyond the surface. People like InfinityGlock99 were just straight forward to admit “I was quite late playing the first one, but this one is a masterpiece.” Then there is a supporter named Anthony Day who has already called it “Game of the Year.” Bold? Perhaps; but it is far more difficult to argue with all the praise.
Then there were conversations about much smaller things. Chonkyboii420 is pumped to just “play in the snow,” while others seem hyped about the ambience. “Majestic but traveling is a pain,” jokes TheNamana98—which is basically the Kojima game motto.
We have those weird sorts of wholesome ones. PromptlyAI gave the shoutout: “Keep it going” to Kojima and team. Simple but nice. Meanwhile, Soulbound TV countered with, “Plot twist: the beach wins again 🌊,” which… honestly, fair.
But of course, the skeptics took some attention as well. 3rdPersonBro asked straight-up, “Based on what players voting? I’m not seeing that response in reality.” Bro, have you seen the replies? The love is real, even if it’s not your thing.
Days in, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is very much resonating. Whatever it is: whether visuals, story, or just straight-up weirdness, it is all in for the players. Given its kind of reception, Kojima’s wild ride is not stopping anytime soon.
Now, if you haven’t had a taste of it yet… what the hell are you waiting for? The beach (and the BTs!) is calling.
