Dead by Daylight just threw its players a curveball that’s going to make some killers rage quit. The 9.5.0 “All-Kill: Comeback” update landed today with a Trickster rework so brutal it might as well be called “All-Kill: Career Ending.” BHVR decided to gut their K-pop killer while giving survivors some seriously powerful new toys to play with.
The update brings new survivor Kwon Tae-young, a fresh map, and a completely reimagined Trickster that trades raw power for flashy Style Points. But here’s the kicker – they nerfed him hard while adding all these shiny new mechanics.
“9.5.0 | All-Kill: Comeback CONTENT NEW MAP: TRICKSTER’S DELUSION – The Sleepless District will be the new Realm NEW SURVIVOR: KWON TAE-YOUNG” — @Goblin_BHVR
Trickster mains are about to feel the pain. BHVR slashed his movement speed from 4.6m/s down to 4.4m/s, putting him in the same slow category as Huntress and Artist. They also cut his blade count from 44 to 36, meaning fewer chances to land those crucial hits. The terror radius shrunk too, dropping from 32m to 24m.
But wait, there’s more bad news. After throwing just 5 blades in a row, his movement speed drops even further. Hit 10 consecutive throws and you’re crawling at a painful 3.16m/s. That’s barely faster than survivors running in a straight line.
The new Style Points system is supposed to make up for these nerfs, but it’s a risky gamble. Trickster now builds style by landing blades and chaining actions together. Higher style ranks boost throw rate and locker restocking speed, plus unlock the coveted Main Event ability. Sounds cool on paper, but experienced players know that inconsistent power spikes usually mean inconsistent results.
Kwon Tae-young brings some genuinely scary perks to the survivor side. Flow State turns generator completion into permanent buffs for healing, cleansing, and unhooking. A Place For Us gives both players Elusive status during heals, making them harder to track. Five Moves Ahead is the real nightmare though – it shows auras of the 5 closest pallets and windows while in terror radius, plus speeds up pallet drops.
These aren’t just good perks, they’re meta-shifting powerhouses. Flow State essentially gives coordinated teams permanent speed boosts for key actions. Five Moves Ahead turns every chase into a guided tour of every safe spot nearby. Combined with the Trickster nerfs, survivors just got a massive indirect buff.
The new map Trickster’s Delusion adds another layer to The Sleepless District realm. More maps usually mean more RNG for both sides, which veteran players know can make or break matches depending on spawns and layouts.
Here’s what BHVR is really doing with this update – they’re trying to solve Trickster’s fundamental design problem. He was either completely useless or absolutely oppressive depending on the map and situation. The Style Points system attempts to smooth out those extremes by making his power build gradually instead of being all-or-nothing.
But nerfing his base stats this hard feels like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Slower movement speed means longer chases and more time for survivors to do generators. Fewer blades means less room for error when trying to land hits. The math doesn’t look good for Trickster players.
Meanwhile, Kwon’s perks are going straight into every sweaty survivor build. Information perks like Five Moves Ahead have always been meta, and this one’s basically Kindred for chase scenarios. Flow State rewards good teamwork with permanent buffs, exactly what coordinated groups needed to dominate even harder.
The community reaction is going to be split hard on this one. Survivor mains will love the new toys and weaker Trickster. Killer players are probably already theory-crafting which character to switch to. And Trickster mains? They’re about to find out if flashy Style Points can make up for being slower than molasses.
This update represents BHVR’s ongoing struggle with asymmetric balance. Every buff to one side creates ripple effects throughout the entire game. Making Trickster more engaging to play is a worthy goal, but doing it by nerfing his core stats might create more problems than it solves.
The 9.5.0 update is live now across all platforms. Trickster players have some serious learning ahead of them with the new Style Points system. Survivor teams are about to discover just how powerful Kwon’s perk loadout really is.
BHVR will definitely be watching the data closely over the next few weeks. If Trickster’s kill rates tank too hard, expect some hotfixes to bring his power level back up. But for now, DBD’s meta just got flipped upside down, and not everyone’s going to be happy about it.
