The news works like a full bomb on the community, and not something they’d have wished to hear. DayZ developers gave updates about the forthcoming version 1.29, and maybe the players will have to wait for quite some time.

Essentially, they want to take some time for server-side optimization to ensure everything runs fluidly. They aren’t going to release the update prematurely, though, the wait will hurt for sure.

The delay announcement spread across Twitter courtesy of the official DayZ account, and the flood of replies almost appeared instantly as gamers had much to say—patience seems like an extinct virtue.

One gamer pleaded on behalf of us all: “All I want is controller input for PC đŸ˜.” That’s a fairly common request, while another one wondered if PS-style controller support had been added for PC yet. I guess some would rather chill out on a controller than have to put up with a keyboard and mouse.

The poor souls on consoles had their problems. Another said, “Spawn glitches and rubber banding are terrible on console,” which sounds about right. Then, another asked for a PS5 performance update, and someone chimed in about Xbox performance getting worse too. Things look pretty rough on the consoles, huh?

And then, there’s the whole vehicle mess. One had some thoughts about cars: “Finding any car after the first week of wipe is impossible. I think cars should have a despawn timer like everything else so people who just horde them and don’t use them.” That’s a solid point indeed—nothing worse than knowing there are cars, but they’re tucked away in someone’s base.

There were also those that welcomed the delay. “No rush on this. I think everyone would rather it work great than be rushed. Appreciate the hard work!” was one of the few positive comments in an otherwise bitter atmosphere. Then there came a simple, “take as much time as you need,” trailing with a heart emoji.

Now, the less patient ones… Well, those are going to need a while: “So next week then, or the week after that, or the week after that? This has been the longest update wait to date.” Which is fair.

A person took one slightly more direct way: “1.29 is being a bitch huh lol.”

Quite a number of bugs appear interspersed amongst those complaints. Several requested M79 to be fixed and for feedback consideration before the update. Another one brought up a fix needed for a “see-through wall glitch.” Thoughts on vehicle physics: “The Truck and Humve should be way stronger when driving on hills!!đŸ¤ª”.

Wipe or no wipe popped up too because that’s always a heavy-hitter topic for the DayZ community. Nobody wants to lose hard-earned gear.

Interestingly, one player operating modded servers probably took heart in the delay: “No rush. Each update = trouble as I am on ~100 mods. So no rush, take your time as I enjoy peace and quiet time as I face no server issues. ;-)” So there are ways around it for some!

Confusion even reared its head over whether there would be an additional update this year or just the three ones that they had in planning. A bummer for now.

The overall vibe was somewhat split – some of the player base support the stability notion; the vast majority wants fixes and features “now.” Pretty usual for any game community, eh? Everyone is after the best experience possible, yet sure don’t want to wait for it.

They did say they appreciated everyone’s patience and support. They would however keep everyone posted as they drew closer to 1.29. Until then, stay tuned for announcements.

If you are on consoles and dealing with performance issues…, hey, this could be a great time to take a break! If you are on PC and the wait for controller support is killing you, then it is also a good time to dust off those keyboard skills.

Either way, I think we are all in the waiting game now. So fingers crossed that means 1.29 is really going to be worth the wait with the extra development time.
