After getting a freshly baked update, players of DayZ more or less got the hype for content, whereas others despised the changes that it brought along with super dark nights. The devs went and decided to maintain the servers on PC and Xbox with official PC servers going down at 13:00 CEST, with Xbox Experimental following one hour later at 14:00 CEST. Servers were scheduled to return in close to an hour, but from this delay commentaries erupted into masses.
Starting off with the good stuff, the Xbox Experimental update (1.28) packs quite a few punches-literal ones. The RAK-37, new scopes, and new music now enter the scene. The Frostline events return to the map, with helicopter crashes, boat crashes, medical emergencies, geysers, and weird cave noises. Vehicle handling got tweaked; clothing repair was brought into the limelight; and a whole bunch of fixes-bugs, exploits, sounds, and inventory glitches-were patched up. Oh, and server spawn got some loving, too. Some good times, eh?
And there lie a few interesting points. The last update also saw changes to nighttime visibility, with nights getting brighter on official servers. Boys and girls, that created a storm. Players like @livingxdead666 went on said it was a “sad day,” proceeded to say, “RIP Dark nights. Good job community servers can keep the hardcore vibe alive.” Others like @MustyChapstick was saying DayZ is dying by turning into “PUBZ” instead of a hardcore survival experience. Even @Branden55977988 pleaded with devs to keep the dark nights of Chernarus and Livonia because they are “good how they are.”
Console players weren’t pleased, either. In the meantime, @Mykee36 called out the staggered updates with “WTF. Console was getting experimental at the same time. More treating consoles like the red-headed stepchild.” Meanwhile, @EdThe2nd was trying to explain about the delay, stating that console updates have always been an hour behind PC. Though really, when has logic ever stopped gamers from being mad?
Then came the usual technical nitpicking. @cheef1981 reported tents teleporting after the update, @PauloAmrico17 pleaded for native controller support on PC, and @_JDM_91 ordered the devs to “delete this game already” and create a new one.
Then there’s the salt. @spacecat just wanted to know why he got banned from viewing the patch notes (vibes), while @ogspacecloud casually dropped that he’s stuck playing on PS5 till he gets himself a new PC. Priorities, indeed.
So, this just basically means that the DayZ latest update is a mixed bag. New guns, new vehicles, and bug fixes are welcome beyond measure; however, fiddling around with nighttime lighting? A risky move for a game that thrives on tension through survival. Stick or walk back (looking at you, community servers), time knows. For now, good luck with finding that RAK-37, and watch out for Frostline events. Might wanna keep that flashlight in hand as a plus.
