This sick collector’s item of a thermal katana for Cyberpunk 2077 could put some players bouncing in joy, while another cluster craves to know the actual roll-out date of the much-anticipated Patch 2.3.
The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account just tweeted this slick glowing katana with all the iconic thermal effects. Produced by Zing Toys, this replica is available to pre-order right away on CDPR Merch, with links given for both U.S. and international customers. If you want to cut loose street-fighting style, just hide it away as a true Night City merc, or maybe just EG it on a shelf, it certainly goes a long way as the ultimate collector’s item.
But Twitter replies begin to paint another picture than an unchineled reckoning. There is a massive spate of disapproval of merchandise announcements currently among gamers who flood the comments with one burning question: Where is Patch 2.3?
User @notseger asked plainly, “Patch 2.3 when?” while @OATOFIWC called out CDPR: “It takes 5 mins to give us updates or at least let us know what the update is.” And then @BiciSalope made a pretty brutal joke: “We’re gonna get GTA6 before patch 2.3.”
Though, one might say the joke was well timed as the frustration mounts. Back in the day, CDPR teased Patch 2.3. However, very few details have down-filtered, and this sudden merch drop while people are still waiting for a game update hasn’t sat very well with some. @Alacod1 even called it a “rug pull” just before the patch was meant to drop.
Though, not all screams out there are for updates. Whereas the katana received an endorsement from fans like @Kobeison that called it “preem” (Night City slang for “awesome,” choom), @TheCodymatronic declared nothing but a grateful “Thank u for this 🥹” alongside the sweetest gif. Then there’s @JoBoi88: “Hand not included, I’m assuming 😂” in reference to the in-game bespoke cyberware-enhanced arms.
And, yeah, there are international fans with their own sets of problems, with @GodofRamen666 wondering if any Polish folk would be willing to ship it on to Moscow (apparently a bit cheaper?). @R4adh1, meanwhile, laments about the price in Arabic: “It’s a shame, I wanted to buy it because I was excited for the game when it first came out, but the price is too high.”
Now, while it would be wise on the designers’ part to throw a bone to the players in the form of patch news, the merch hype currently trumps the demands for updates. And, honestly? They deserve that.
And if you are into the katana, pre-orders are live. Just don’t expect a cyberhand to be included—that’s a separate purchase. Probably.
