This is a big deal in TWO ways: Firstly, it was a Twitter message which just graced the players and transformed entirely. The message was off very simple but said something profound, having Johnny Silverhand-the legendary rockerboy figure of the game states-“Just for a moment, be somethin’ that fuckin’ mattered.” And the post is nicely complemented by one of the best cosplay photos I have seen, set by the talented @MrsVSilverhand. This makes it usually resonates with the players than hyping of the gaming niche would; however, it simply does better for them.
Depending on how long you have played the vast RPG by CD Projekt Red, the line will make you think deeper. It is at the core of Johnnys call out for help, growing angry out in the world trying to make you into nothing. And the cosplay? It is brought to life with a lot of heart. The lighting, the attitudinal emoting, and the very look of it—one can visualize this as a shot out of one of the game’s sadder endings that’s just almost melancholic. Everyone who replied was mostly in agreement, making some sort of comments to enlighten the tension, such as @joeljutsu stating, “right in the feels,” or @XFunkeda expressing, “beautiful and sad at the same time.” @Gro3_ simply said, “A whole mood right there, a whole vibe.” That’s exactly what is going on.
Yet it becomes ironic that one post marvelously proud of fan art appreciation and here becomes a quick snapshot of the Cyberpunk 2077 player base in 2024. You have some struck fans and cosplay admirers, and then you have the yellers who want superior patches and all that. Constant everything at an amazing diversity of opinion.
Sheldon Simms was wanting more content on behalf of someone who says, “Based it has beauty,” whereas downstairs lived a comment from @metacappa1 begging, “Can you guys just release patch 2.4 already? Just give me one excuse to go back to Night City!” Someone @Tacticalpasta_ took the time to make a case for an FOV slider for console, which is never a bad idea. Then the amazing question by @ZanonGalt: Will Cyberpunk 2 also use the same signature yellow color scheme? Thoughts all over the place and beyond—in the past, present, and future of Night City.
However, what was really remarkable, was seeing how this cosplay meant a great deal to so many within the gamer community. @jackNsocks responded directly to the quote: “You have always been important to me choom,” which is so nice in-universe; then @TheTenebrousVex jumped in two seconds later to declare that they are halfway through their second playthrough, bought it again but this time on a PC and told them it may just become their new all-time fave. Such is the power of game. It finds you and keep you.
Then came a barrage of replies directly indicating links to the game endings. @DeandreSumling shared a video with the caption “Remind me of this ending” while @riz1g quoted the track “A thing of beauty, I know, will never fade away,” with crying emojis. It is an exciting touchstone of community culture that only a really narrative-driven piece of work creates and is akin to a common language.
So what is the verdict of all these? In spite of its infamous botched launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has become the audience’s somethin’ that matters. The official account’s sharing of a fan’s truly stunning cosplay-lot of weight in so few words-isn’t just a mere retweet; it ultimately strikes upon a language only that community shares. It’s about the story, the characters, and the very sight of Night City that fans aspire to be part of, if only briefly, through a photograph.
The discussion about patch 2.4 and all the future features merely hints the community is still moving forward. Also, quite dramatically, the displayed fans are now the confessions of the PROOF of what the game stands out from within. The community is active on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox.
