Did someone just drop the ultimate bomb regarding Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition’s running on Switch 2? If this is true, well, that would be one of the wildest, craziest crossovers in gaming this year.
The tweet displays what appears to be a screenshot taken from Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, tagged with the caption that reads, “Captured on Nintendo Switch 2.” Now, let us put a brake on the howlers of folks losing their heads here.
To begin with, Nintendo has not confirmed whether a Switch successor is forthcoming, let alone with what specifications. Besides, Cyberpunk 2077 has always posed significant challenges even on console platforms, like the PS5 and Xbox Series X; it would require pure sorcery or next-level optimization to achieve that on a Switch 2.
Still, no acknowledgement from CD Projekt Red or Nintendo exists; not even some banal press release or teaser announcement. It is just a tweet with nothing surrounding it. And there are zero replies to it. No anticipation, no skepticism, just… crickets. Doesn’t that feel weird?
So what’s really going on? Here are a couple of possible interpretations:
1. Fake. This was a big hoax on the Internet featuring a sloppy Photoshop. We love a good rumor.
2. Developer tests. Maybe CDPR is quietly evaluating the prototype. Yet for that to leak in such a way is strange.
3. This is an actual leak, and someone was loose-lipped. If so, life will go crazy.
Should this really be true, then a whole bunch of questions arise. How would one even run Night City on a handheld? Is it going to be Cloud-based a la the original Switch? Or maybe the next home console from Nintendo is much more powerful than we ever considered?
At this point, we can only wait. If Cyberpunk 2077 truly drops on Switch 2, that is a win for portable gaming. Imagine Johnny Silverhand’s chaos on the go.
So keep that hype until a bit longer. And keep one eye on CDPR’s socials—just in case.
