CD Projekt Red just dropped another very secret in-universe broadcast from Cyberpunk 2077, and the crowd is going crazy for it. The tweet came down the old corporate way-“Transmission Intercepted, Source: Militech, Sender: Stout”-interspersed with a screenshot courtesy @BurgerMucherr. And, honestly, the response has been insane.
Gamers started to make it very clear that they want more Meredith Stout content. It’s a fervent demand. @P3ket said, “We need more of Meredith,” while @bazant255 declared, “Give us more Mother Stout.” There’s just this eerie graveyard-hush idea in trying to imagine CD Projekt Red conjuring such a compelling character and then… not doing much with her?
As discussion gained speed, players started debating what they actually got out of Meredith in the base game, and, trust me, opinions are scattered far and wide. For example, @pfuryexe called her “underutilised”; the other half of the argument referred to the “missing convoy” storyline of Maelstrom as “one of the best quests in the game,” but one capped at a cliffhanger. So much so that they outright said the best way she could have possibly been used was the shame of not doing so.
Things do get ferociously interesting; ORMANCE. Or rather-lack thereof. @GuyRaski was posing the general question that everybody was maybe already pondering: “Why couldn’t CD make her an actual romance option in the game?” And then @sayorimain shot in with an unqualified government mandate: “need the stout romance.” People are very seriously invested in this corporate agent with killer fashion sense and an attitude for days.
The replies continued to discuss what little romance content actually exists for her. @Dhizaes shared, “She is romanceable to a point,” and if you play your cards right through her questline, “she invites you to do thing.” @LPNintendoITA then gave the icing on the cake with, “she also gives you an iconic dildo lol,” which is such a perfect encapsulation of the kind of humor Cyberpunk 2077 excels at.
I was somewhere around Meredith Stout obsession. It’s not just about romance, though. @Gro3_ said, “Militech lore drops = always fire,” implying how they crave more corporate intrigue and world-building via characters like Stout.
Even amidst their enthusiasm, some might be mixing up characters. @sayorimain admitted, “wait a minute why did i confuse her and Myers😭,” which kind of makes sense-can there be that many power players in Night City trying to contract V for their own means?
But here’s the thing that really stands out-Meredith-love rests on an undercurrent of this general frustration about content on the whole. “More content please!!!” says @Pablo473722. @Puff_Chady is requesting a “New expansion please,” and @MR_OLLS is joking that the sequel is only coming in “2033? Detroit? cmon anything!!” There is no denying that more Cyberpunk 2077 experiences are desired by all.
And then come the… less well-meaning comments. The very random @coolhan01914940 insists, “Fire Mary Kenney,” just because-fair enough, right? Then there are those discontented ones from the likes of @FreestyleEngr with his “Wake me when y’all add some content.” Ouch.
The weirdest were those from @ItsDirtyDan_, who, straight after the patches, was complaining that auto-driving was broken, and the cars were “driving more off the road and into traffic on the opposite side of the road to avoid stopping at the traffic lights lmao,” which is pretty infuriating yet another great laugh in that buggy Cyberpunk way we’ve come to know and… tolerate?
What’s really striking though is just how divided the player base still seems to be when it comes to which characters need more of. @vistadelray was way clear-“girl we don’t want her we want songbird,” cementing that alongside the Meredith fans, there are characters players feel quite strongly for.
Just underlining that the overall mood coming from this tweet and reply is that Cyberpunk 2077 players really are into the characters and world of the game, while feeling they could have used far better. Meredith Stout presents the perfect example of a character with tremendous potential, but even potential that is squandered with barely a handful of client gigs. Players remember her; they want more of her, and they have quite clearly spelled out for CD Projekt Red what they want.
Speaking to the culture of Cyberpunk 2077, there’s a somewhat humorous juxtaposition, where the little in-character tweet sparked passionate debates over character development, romance options, and all-around content desire. The community of Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the loudest, perhaps even most engaged, constantly reminding the devs of the parts of their game that really hit home. Whether or not Meredith really ends up getting more content remains to be seen, but the demand is thunderous.
PlayStation and Xbox players alike are part of this vibrant community.
