The Cyberpunk 2077 official Twitter account has organized a birthday party for Judy Alvarez, the most popular of Night City characters, and believe it or not, the feedback was absolutely nova. Among other things, they also posted this wonderful fanart of Judy looking pretty cool in her headsets made by Catsigma, asking all the chooms to show their support through the top BD virtuoso’s comments. And those comments just skyrocketed – like, wow.
The players were absolutely overjoyed and their replies were huge, which showed that this character is highly valued in the Cyberpunk 2077 community. One user even claimed that Judy was “the most beautiful character in the game”, which is actually true since she is at least one of the best looking ones. Another person just commented “my baby” along with crying emojis which is basically the same as saying that they love her. There is such a strong and passionate admiration for Judy that sometimes it feels as if it is literally jumping off from the screen.
Surprisingly, the most hilarious was one very observant fan who pointed out that Judy’s official birthday is actually November 27, 2052. Does it mean she is still not born in present day? That is quite a commitment to the game’s storyline, really! The fans even said they would wait until 2052 to wish her a happy birthday in a real sense, which is quite a level of commitment that I can respect but also kind of laugh when you think about it.
The romance aspect was very often brought up, which is quite understandable as Judy is one of the main love-interests in the game. One player claimed that she was “the canon love story for Fem V”, which prompted some interesting discussions about player choices and different preferences. Subsequently, the favorite comment “Why do I always fall in love with gay girls?” popped up, and quite a few people seemingly agreed with it openly. Sometimes it is difficult to say why but one thing is for sure, video game characters could come to us with this very strong emotion.
What is really amazing is the different types of relationships players have with Judy. Some players were sending their screenshots of Judy from their playthroughs; others were telling how many times they have romanced her (one of them claimed four times!). Someone even said that Judy was the only reason they went to E3 2018 and have been playing the game for 5,800 hours ever since. Wow! That is a pretty committed fan not only of the game as a whole but of that character in particular.
Fanart was also loved when appreciation was shown for Catsigma’s style as well as for the representation of Judy. On the other hand, one person pointed out that the fanart does not make her look precisely as the in-game character, which is indeed a valid point since fanart is often abstracted from the original characters. The artist was actually seen in the replies chatting with the people and even showing how grateful they were for the kind words.
There were random but funny comments like a person getting all excited about discovering that they share the same birthday as Judy. Also, the classic “Judy booty” joke came up again, as it usually does whenever she is mentioned. The community is very spontaneous and shares its jokes with each other.
However, amongst all the birthday wishes, there were some who kept pushing for new game updates, asking when the new content would be available. It is indeed interesting to watch the character celebration interrupting the game’s community checking in on the developer’s status. One user even pointed out that the game was nearing its fifth anniversary, which is a good way to realize how long Cyberpunk 2077 has been a part of our gaming lives.
What is truly remarkable is the power of a fictional character’s birthday to draw and unite large crowds of people. We definitely admit that Judy is not an actual person, but the emotions she triggers are surely real ones. The comment section turned into a real festivity where the characteristics of the character were shared among the different players – her character, her story, her extraordinary skills with braindances, her relations in the game, etc.
Such instances are rare but they obviously prove the strength of video games with hyper-real characters. They are not just pixels lighting the screen; they are the characters we love and remember even when playing on the console. Judy Alvarez has already made her mark in the Cyberpunk 2077 community and it was only then that she was showered with warmth like a typical gamer.
This whole topic was one of the most beautiful things in gaming life – it perfectly blended the community’s genuine love for the character, inside jokes, and bonding. The whole episode is a celebration that cannot be planned or manufactured; it can only occur when the character resonates profoundly with the players.
