CD Projekt Red benefitted from Cyberpunk 2077 players’ discussions with a massive nudge to the storyline. The birthdays of three major characters were mentioned in November, which made the month one of the most significant events in-game. The official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account hinted at one of Night City’s biggest fixers, a “legendary yet dead (or is he?) rockerboy,” and a braindance artist, and the three characters mentioning their birthdays together this month has resulted in a lot of debates among the game’s fans.
The post clearly pointed to Johnny Silverhand with the “or is he?” remark, and this has led to speculation that flaunted the return of Keanu Reeves’ iconic character in the future narratives. We all saw how Phantom Liberty ended. Didn’t we? But now they are tempting us with this vague wording and it is becoming a nightmare for everyone. The official account has also been tweeting about “encrypted data” which they claim to be nothing but a “glitch in the system,” thus adding another “or is it?” to the confusion. They are truly playing a risky game, and the players aren’t getting disappointed.
The replies to the tweet show that the Cyberpunk community is still very much involved. One user Jace immediately grabbed the Johnny Silverhand bait and replied with “or is he?” and a thinking emoji. Another user FormCodeFugitive went wild with “OR IS HE?!” in caps since he was right; that’s how most of us feel. The anticipation is so overwhelming and CD Project Red is very clear that they are the ones who are manipulating the hype through these perfectly timed teases.
The birthday revelations led to players narrating their own nice personal stories. For instance, not a few players discovered they share the same birthday as Johnny Silverhand, while one user TheLetcreate was very happy and wrote “I literally have the best luck since i have the same birthday as Johnny” together with the rock hand emojis. Another player Astra De Carcosa was very elated too, saying “Oh damn, I share a birthday with Johnny :3” – which is really good timing if you ask me. At the same time, user wolfsnk737 was astonished to learn “Cant believe Judy is scorpio” and illustrated it with wide-eyed emojis, thereby expressing how players are starting to relate to these characters almost on a horoscope level.
However, the New Game Plus request surfaced first as always whenever CD Projekt Red is involved in community discussions. 1153471.f14c79cd7aaa4ab5aa97b98d505e4e63. Player Takeo_26 immediately requested “new game +, and maybe release all the clothes that the npc wear for our characters to wear” and honestly? Same here. The fashion in Night City is so cool but we don’t get to wear half of the amazing clothes that are the characters’ in the game. User KaizdV was even more direct in his/her comment where he/she stated “If you guys somehow add NG+ I’ll gladly play the game 25 more times” with a determined face emoji. The New Game Plus demand amongst Cyberpunk gamers is just so huge and they never miss a chance to remind the makers of it.
The replies under the post gave rise to a full debate on how New Game Plus should be, with user Adam proposing that it should “just after the Heist when V wakes up in his/her apartment and getting Takemura’s call to head to Toms” because “the first act is actually a tutorial section that becomes somewhat boring after however many playthroughs.” This is definitely a very good suggestion – skipping the introductory stuff while keeping all your gear and levels would make follow-up playthroughs a lot more enjoyable. Another user S. also took part in the discussion saying that he/she just wants to “play again with my things and levels instead of farming even XP” and suggested the “FROMSOFT treatment of just numbers go up” which, yes, FromSoftware does manage NG+ perfectly across their games.
Some users focused on the calendar image and remarked that the last part of October had six empty slots and user TheElmoPelle commented “we have still not a single clue about those six empty slots 😄 Well, one month later we might know more.” Whoa! That is some excellent detective work – could those empty slots be a hint of the Halloween event or a content drop? NPC767480 explained, “Those 6 slots are the last few days of October. It’s a Calendar design” but still, the timing seems strange since we are about to enter that period now.
