Bloober Team dropped a huge release with Cronos: The New Dawn, and yeah, it’s out RIGHT NOW on basically all platforms: PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and even Nintendo Switch 2-which is wild to be honest. Time-travel survival horror?? That sounds so cool, but maybe also chaotic in a way. And judging by the online reactions, the player base is split right down the middle.
The official Cronos account went to Twitter to claim that this experience will force you to “put your skills to test” and undergo an “intense survival horror experience unlike anything you have faced before.” The account stressed the idea of a “twisted time travel story” at its core and told the audience to “adapt, survive, don’t let them merge!” What that means is definitely cryptic and downright creepy. Best stories are actually player reactions to the game.
Well, some went for it. Robyn DaBank named this person loving it calling “Game is great, maybe a little too easy. I barely died once.” Running around fully stocked with ammo, and returning to the stash for more ammo. But this person is really hooked: “I need to see the end, SUCH IS OUR CALLING.” That’s the energy. Another player named Rob added, “Just made it to the steelworks tonight. Enjoying the hell out of this!” So that sounds promising.
Then Freddy Fox said, “Awesome game 🔥🔥🔥🔥,” while another states, “Survival horror at its finest.” You get the happy crowd there. Synth Potato congratulated the devs, stating, “Been really enjoying this game❤️.” So it’s not all bad — far from it.
BUT. And there almost always is a but. The other half of this argument is… well, messy. User Brezelbeck did NOT hold back, saying, “Bad combat, boring story, and no difficulty slider, game is ass sorry guys.” Ouch. That’s pretty harsh. Another player, Elian, tagged both Cronos and BlooberTeam in a complaint that the game “has no sense in the difficulty, strength balance in the monsters and very low ammunition.” They also called out the lack of a defense mechanic against attacks, saying it’s “horrible.”
Difficulty and balancing might be some of the biggest points of contention. J_Martinez2012 is one of the devs, asking them to “Tone down the damage done by ads a bit. Or increase melee damage a bit so we cannactually kill them if we run out of bullets.” So it seems like some players find the combat featured in the game to be punishing mostly in the worst kind of way. This sparked a whole back-and-forth in the replies, with players arguing what a survival horror game should even be. One user Raph, replied to someone complaining by asking “Do you know what a survival horror is?”, implying that the challenge is part of the point. Another fellow, Rykard, called the complainers “a bunch of boo hoo ass clowns🤡”. So the community is on its feet and arguing already, which basically is the norm these days whenever a game launches.
Then there are some technical issues. Leon said, “This game is awesome but it do got performance issues,” at one point in performance mode on consoles when the framerate dropped. Requesting for it to be “updated to make it a solid 60fps.” Then there’s the HDR. User Couch Gaming said, “HDR is totally broken with raised blacks. Looks awful 😫”. They said PC players have made a mod to fix it, but console players are left waiting for the official patch from devs. Big oof for a fresh release.
A few strange regional and platform lags are plaguing the game. Someone couldn’t locate it on the PS5 store, asking, “I don’t see it in ps5 🤷🏽♂️”. Another was waiting with heavy expectation for the physical version on Xbox Series X. Nick Vysotsky from Ukraine thanked them for including Ukrainian localization, which is a really awesome positive note.
And, of course, you can’t have a Bloober Team game without someone dropping the Silent Hill reference. One user even said: “Not buying until you fix Silent Hill 2 on PS5 Pro.” So, yeah, that’s a thing. Another one asked if Cronos itself is PS5 Pro enhanced.
So yeah, the launch of Cronos: The New Dawn is a mixed bag. Some players are diving in and having a blast and calling the best survival horror experience. Others hit a wall with difficulties and complain about combat balance, and technical problems like broken HDR and framerate dips are clogging things up. It’s one of those games that clicks really well with some people and really poorly with others. If you’re into survival horror and a twisted story, might be worth a shot, but maybe wait for a patch or two if you care about performance. The discourse is already turning spicy, that’s for sure.
