When it comes to influential platformers, the Crash Bandicoot series is one of the more impactful. These games burst onto the gaming scene back in the late 90s. They introduced an iconic hero in Crash, who’s lovable and always seems to out-think evil villains trying to take over the world.

There have been a ton of games in this series, but it has been a while since a faithful sequel has come out. That dry spell is about to end with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, an upcoming platformer being developed by Toys for Bob and published by Activision.

So far, we’ve seen a couple of trailers showing its designs and gameplay, but a release date has eluded fans. That is until a couple of days ago when a new gameplay launch trailer surfaced. This latest installment will be available on October 2. Those that pre-order right now will get to check out the demo earlier than the rest of the community.

In the trailer, it shows the iconic platforming action that captivated gamers a couple of decades back. The classic action is mixed in with new visuals, designs, suits, and abilities. That should further the Crash Bandicoot series forward, but keep just enough elements to please die-hards that have such an affinity for this platforming franchise.

It looks like Crash’s old nemesis — Doctor Neo Cortex — is back to his evil ways. A multiverse concept is featured where it looks like Crash will be traveling back through time in some capacity. It’s a fresh story that could lead to all sorts of run-ins with classic characters and different versions of those classic characters.

As far as the new elements, the new masks instantly stand out. They change the way levels can be played and how obstacles can be overcome. Another unique aspect of this eighth main installment is your ability to control five characters in the game. That should make platforming all the more dynamic and keep players invested in how they move around stages and obstacles.

Like most of the Crash Bandicoot games, players will have to move from the start of the level to the end. All the while, they’ll have to avoid or defeat enemies and collect resources.

This latest installment looks to be progressing the series like never before, which should make new and returning fans excited about what the future holds for this franchise. Only a couple of weeks until it will be available on the PS4 and Xbox One.
