With the outbreak of the Coronavirus in Wuhan, China, league of legends fans were wondering whether LPL and LDL would be delayed for players’ safety.

An official announcement was made by Tencent yesterday regarding this situation, LPL and LDL are officially delayed until further notice until the Coronavirus outbreak has minimized.

A coronavirus is a group of viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds that include diarrhea in cows and pigs, and upper respiratory disease in chickens. In humans, the virus causes respiratory infections, which are often mild but are potentially lethal. But this virus has never been seen before, so it’s been called 2019-nCov, for “novel coronavirus”.

New viruses can become common in humans after jumping across the species barrier from animals. The Sars [Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome] outbreak of 2003 started in bats and transferred to the civet cat which passed it on to humans.

There have been multiple fatalities, mostly in old people or people with health issues beforehand. It all started in Wuhan, China in a market where they were selling illegally live animals for meat. The people who ate that meat got infected and it started spreading quite fast to other people as well.

Multiple sports and esports events have been canceled over the past couple of days, cities were quarantined with hope to maintain the outbreak within the perimeter. But even with all these actions, there have been some cases identified in the USA & Europe already.

Wuhan, a city of 8 million people is a ghost town, with people being afraid to go outside, hospitals are overcrowded and medical staff is overworked after 24-hour long shifts.

While the situation seems to aggravate over the last couple of days, everyone should remain calm as scientists are working on a cure by utilizing the genetic code of people in Wuhan.

As for League of Legends, it is unclear when the Chinese scene will be back, as it was supposed to begin in early February. It is unsure if they will be present during the international event MSI (Mid-Season Invitational), or how will the future of the scene look like. A temporary solution could be to allow teams to play from their houses instead of coming to the studio. While this temporary solution could be used without much hassle, Tencent thinks the problem will resolve itself quickly and therefore has decided to delay it instead.

If you have a fever, followed by a dry cough and then, after a week, lead to shortness of breath and feel the situation is aggravating, make sure to take care of yourself and visit the hospital for a health check. While the virus seems to be lethal for old people or unhealthy people, for now, it is unclear how it will evolve in the next couple of days/weeks.
