There is a tweet of the official Call of Duty Twitter account that has created a puzzling message and triggered a debate among gamers but the overall thing is not very positive. The post contained a terrible picture and a message that said “Sometimes the best plan is no plan đš”. Also by the tweet, players were encouraged to “Tag the Chucky in your squad đ”. However, negative comments from players demanding the return of one specific feature have already taken over the fun interaction that Activision probably expected.
The tweet in question is quite vague; it is mainly comprised of an eerie photograph and a reference to a Chucky, leaving it open as either hinting at some new horror-themed items or just depicting that one loud player in each team who ruins the stealthy moves. Still, even though the gamers didnât respond to the tagging they were invited to, the opposite happened and the replies section turned into a huge court of support for with “carry forward” reintroduction in Call of Duty games being the main focus.
Honestly, you wouldnât believe what the replies are asking for, just demands. “Bring back carry forward” has to be the most often repeated expression; itâs like listening to a broken record. Venom_Snake1551 brashly claimed “@CallofDuty Bring back carry forward” while Farhad pleaded “please please please please please đ„șđ„ș.” The precision of the discontent is palpable; the affected people are the very opposite of happy.
But, what is the carry forward thing anyway? For the uninitiated, it actually refers to oneâs ability to take their unlocked content- guns, camos, operator skins- from one Call of Duty game to another. The community has been very vocal about wanting this feature back, which has been a favorite among players, but nowÂŹâwith it discontinuedâthe community is REALLY LOUD in their displeasure.
The Slasher Report didnât care about being nice either; they ordered Call of Duty to “read the room” and further stated “NO CARRY FORWARD, NO PURCHASE!” Thatâs quite a strong express way of saying a conclusion made by the people. When developers get to a point they are threatened with boycott over a feature that has been taken away, itâs a clear and loud signal that they have made a serious mistake.
However, more and more drama is coming up in the replies. User xWeAreLegionx gave a rant saying “this game is a joke” and called CoD as needing “your ass kicked by Battlefield 6.” Ouch. SuperSpeshX also stated agreeing with Battlefield being the dominating one saying “this is why Battlefield is dominating, btw.” The competition is mentioned alongside the carry forward complaints, which must be bad news for the Call of Duty team.
There were still a few answers that did acknowledge the Chucky theme, though. RovenOP said “Every squad has that one Chucky who ruins the stealth plan đđȘ” which is certainly the case. We have all been there with that one teammate who gets all the attention while everyone else is being stealthy. And tatedotcom just said “I hate that little fââker,” which is totally relatable.
TheDadGamerTM also made a very funny suggestion â âCan we get a Leroy Jenkins skin?â And that would be just incredible. Just imagine storming into battle with that battle cry. Someone at Activision, come on, just make this happen.
The replies are also confusing regarding the tweet topic. Only_R14 asked, “Why whatâs the problem here?” and Ryanmaguire1989 clarified, “Nothing, itâs a joke.” So some people were actually confused whether this was referring to actual game issues or just making a funny squad meme.
All of this is a bit of an indicator of how out of touchsometimes gaming companies are with the gamers. They think they are being funny and engaging the audience when in fact they are getting hit by a flood of complaints about a completely different issue. It is like trying to change the topic during Thanksgiving dinner and your uncle just keeps going on about politics.
Most importantly, complaints about carry forward are quite organized. Many users with usernames such as “carry forward guy” and “Zombies Carry forward” have received replies; it seems like the community is working quietly behind the scenes rather than just being random complaints. When gamers rally around a particular request, publishers eventually have to listen to them.
The timing is also quite unlucky as rumors about Battlefield 6 are getting increasingly heated. Players are clearly making comparisons between the two franchises and finding Call of Duty lacking in some areas. Having your rival praised in your own comment section is never a good sign.
So where do we go from here? Call of Duty tried to spin a fun moment depicting squad dynamics and Chucky references but players had other ideas. The carry forward subject has taken over the discourse and itâs not moving out anytime soon. With organized demands and Battlefield comparisons, Activision is going to have to do some serious community management.
They could either take care of the carry forward issue in the next updates or just keep sending funny memes and hope that the complaints would be reduced eventually. Either way, it looks like the gap between what players want and what the developers are offering is quite wide at this moment. And when your community starts threatening to jump ship to the competition, thatâs usually a sign that things need to change fast.
All this is a reminder that gaming communities are quite demanding and will be heard no matter what through their actions like even taking over a tweet affair that is not directly related to them. Player feedback is powerful and Call of Duty might have to start listening before they lose more of their player base.
