The really beautifull trailer of Black Ops 6 x Warzone Season 6 – The Haunting was dropped by Activision, and the players are going bonkers over the insane horror collabs but crying over one big issue. The trailer brings in iconic horror characters like the Predator, Jason Voorhees, Chucky, and Tiffany, along with a KoRn collaboration and bringing back the classic maps of Verdansk and Alcatraz; the celebrations are troubled with some major frustrations feeding the communities, for the content shows no way into Black Ops 7.
So what really is The Haunting event? It is Call of Duty‘s annual Halloween-themed update that turns Warzone into terrifyingly strange elements, said limited-time modes, and attire to match. According to van-zant, “Understandably so these are some dope ass skins that arenβt gonna carry forward,” pretty much capturing the bittersweet anticipation that most feel.
The trailer has well and truly confirmed that Predator and Jason will indeed be operator skins, while Eagle’s Eye Creative reckons Chucky will be either a skin or a finishing move, saying, “It looks like it will be a Chucky costume, with the real Chucky coming in as a finishing move.” The inclusion of Tiffany with Chucky is an indication that the entire Child’s Play franchise will be represented, and this is insane for a military shooter but somehow fits so well in COD‘s chaotic universe.
Now going into messy territory. Players are mad about how these awesome skins won’t carry forward to Black Ops 7. J4M T04ST indeed channeled the whole community in his frustration: “KoRn? Predator? Jason? Chucky and Tiffany? MP40?! It’s a crying fucking shame that this couldn’t be carried over because this may very well be the coolest collab yet!” This sentiment is echoed by a good many more, with Actually Him demanding that “We need carry forward!!!!! Bo7 needs these skins.”
Carry forward has been a long, and often contentious, bone of debate for CoD, but with these horror icons, it hits all that much harder because they seem so genuinely suited to the franchise. Lana Kahnum says it all: “Predator, jason, chucky and tiff. No carry forward ππππππ,” sharing the opinion from players regarding the time and effort they’ve spent on content that won’t follow them into the next game. It’s like buying a brilliant Halloween costume that you only get to wear once.
Others have started questioning the emphasis on cosmetics over gameplay. “Looks more like a trailer for skins then a Haunting event on Verdansk. I hope the maps as good as it was last time,” remarked MasterWayneTV, while JonathanBC questioned, “What about the important? The fun game modesπ€¨” The concerns are warranted since in the past, the Haunting events brought about limited-time modes that turned very creative and became eaten by the crowd.
The map discussion continues to ensue. Returning to Verdansk and Alcatraz were heralded in the trailer, though OhannyGamer7 wondered aloud, “Where’s Vondel?π” before muttering his discontent, “Verdanks and Alcatraz again and no Vondel? Nah I’m good, Battlefield 6 is waiting for me ππ€«π₯.” There is thus an implication that some players are indeed tired of the same locations being recycled year after year.
A ton of confusion has arisen as to how Black Ops 6 will even fit with the Black Ops 7 warzone. Belluga did try to define it clearly: “BO7 warzone is the same current warzone, only it will receive an update,” but players are still left hanging on what content transfers from which side of the isle. It’s the lack of clarity that cause some of these players to hesitate in dropping time and money on the present season.
Nature is often hype and criticism from the gamer reaction. ForwardPushing rebutted a negative criticism, “Nah, this looks legit cool as hell,” while gaz told one few to “shut up nostalgia crybaby.” The split passion on either side is a testimony showing how invested Call of Duty players are into where the franchise is going.
They really cooked with this one π₯” expresses both Team Talus and the vast majority’s consensus that the content is amazing, but it would have been so much better were it not for the present rollout. Music lovers are excited for KoRn arriving, with vxcuityy commenting, “W korn tbh” – meaning, that is indeed a big win for KoRn.
The available look is already looking to the next game, as George Ramirez said, “Nah! The following day BF6 & Little Nightmares 3, I’m good,” implying that as Call of Duty puts out its Halloween event, the competition really begins to heat up.
The big picture is that Call of Duty keeps struggling to find the perfect place for player investment witnessed yearly. chrisllmao put it very well: “They need to bring back carry forward in some capacity.” It’s just common sense for players to ask for the ability to use premium-skin collaborations beyond the lifespan of the current game when they drop real money on the skins.
What’s interesting is the shift in conversation from pure excitement for the content to frustration over its temporary stature. Players love the horror crossovers and hate that they’re essentially renting these characters with no permanent ownership across the franchise.
The Haunting event is gonna be dope, talking about playing as horror legends in Warzone whilst fighting on classic maps all with some sort of Halloween twist. Everything that makes Call of Duty seasonal events so beautifully memorable will be present but this carry forward issue is shifting focus away from what would have otherwise been an undisputed Activision win.
In light of the present shift in the gaming world regarding building player investments across titles, Call of Duty‘s worldview thus feels entirely out of place. Players want their purchases to matter beyond this current installment, especially when premium collaborations like these have proved more than a little costly.
So, while The Haunting event is in the bag as another banger from Activision, the community response tells us players are getting tired of worn-out patterns. They want the incredible content but also want their investments to have some longevity. Hopefully, the actual event has to bring the fun factor even if the business side of things drags. The trailer has spoken, and this is usually an excellent indicator of player engagement, although some of this engagement has been critical.
