So here’s the situation: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is officially in Xbox Game Pass Standard tier in 2023. What did you just say? It will have been in Ultimate and PC Game Pass before it gets into Standard. The very thought of it is a strike for Microsoft.
What it means is you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription at the basic level and have access to play MW3. The catch is that you no longer have to buy the game. And that, believe you me, is huge. And the weather is really conducive for those who have yet to acquire the game but want to get hooked into gameplay.
The crowd gave mixed, but mostly positive, reactions. One gamer shared, “Game Pass Standard just got a serious upgrade with MW3.” That right there, is the truth. Having the one big name title under the standard subscription is one big win for Xbox players, indeed.
Still, few will be less than satisfied; some will ask, “Where are older midnight games for game pass?” More than clearly stated, we do have MW3, but what about the classics? And another one said, “Cod 4 remastered for gamepass please.” Well, the older stuff is hot demand!
And now the discourse begins on which Call of Duty multiplayer is the best. One stated that MW3 is “hands down the best multiplayer we’ve had in the last six years.” That is quite a statement when you consider how divided the CoD world is. Then another says, “Ironically, the two best MPs since BO4 are Vanguard and MWIII, both from SHG. The best studio, IMO.” Looks like Sledgehammer Games is getting some love here, which is nice to see.
As usual, jokes and memes ensue. One said, “Easier lobbies,” with a laughing emoji, which probably everyone understands. A game’s player base typically grows upon its arrival in Game Pass, yet this growth could be responsible for some interesting matches. Well, the more players there are, the better, right? “We need more players in this game man,” was another comment backing that up.
Then a more rational opinion popped up. They said they “might get that $1 trial or whatever to check out the game.” I would say, there’s no downside to that one. If you ever doubt Game Pass, big caliper titles like MW3 really should come through for the service.
While there was kind of a discussion for the PS players. Somebody asked, “available on ps5?” and probably received a bot-like response or something similar. “Yes, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023) is available on PS5. You can buy it digitally via the PlayStation Store or physically from retailers like Amazon. It’s not on PlayStation Plus, though.” And so the PS players get the game; they will just have to pay for it, right? At least up to the moment, no alternative to Game Pass for them.
It is a great pickup for Xbox Game Pass in the grand scheme of things. MW3 is one of the big releases, and getting it onto Standard tier gets the game into the hands of a much bigger set of folks. Microsoft has wrought a coup at this point, considering the intensity of the subscription services market. For the players at least, it means more value hits their pockets, and that is a good thing.
So if you had kept on delaying on Modern Warfare III purchases, then this is your moment to jump on it. Just don’t expect those older CoD games to ever show despite every commentor requesting for it. Maybe someday. For now, enjoy MW3 on Game Pass hopefully, we’ll see you in the lobby. Just don’t rage quit too much!
