Activision thought the whole sick-o phrase “Embrace the madness 🦋” could drum up some extreme weirdness and went on to reveal the officially scheduled date for the global release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 on November 14. The gamers’ reaction? Pure chaos in the reply section with gamers already calling this the year that Battlefield 6 will be the game that just glazes over COD.
Thus, from what has been garnered from the announcement, Black Ops 7 will release on the 14th of November, another holiday release window Activision so dearly loves; however, the timing does raise eyebrows. For everyone and their mother knows that Battlefield 6 supposedly drops on the 10th of October, 2025 as per multiple comments on that announcement tweet. That gives a full month lead to EA’s shooter, and from the look of things, gamers are quickly picking sides.
The replies section from the official call of duty tweet is pure carnage: sometimes there are no better words for the scenario. A warzone environment exists out there on Twitter. @GreatPatriot776 did not minces words: “Embracing BF6. Thanks but no thanks!” while @squirrelman69 kept it brief with, “Battlefield is going to kick your ass.” Ouch.
But it is not totally about competition at least-they air their grievances with the COD franchise in public. @shitcum583 went on a full-blown rant about “You killed your shit after signing a 7 year deal to put every cod on switch 2 now it’ll still be on ps4 for the next 7 years and have 0 room for innovation even on the next console gen this franchise is cooked.” Damn, tell us how you really feel.
The whole innovation thing comes back quite a lot. @UnityBlues stated: “The madness has been embraced for years with you pumping out the same old shit year after year after year. Just give it up.” And then @thesprayandpray put in, “This is 10 years too late this should of been black ops 3” which… wait, what was I saying? Oh yeah, the feeling that COD is stuck in the past while everyone else is moving forward.
But, there are some stubborn fans who are defending the game from complete obscurity. @FireStormGamin_ came back with, “Pre ordered! I don’t understand why this game getting so much hate lol I rather play black ops over bf6 ordered the vault edition I bet those haters will still end up buying lmao.” So, that’s how it is with COD- the more people shout negative things, the more copies the franchise sells.
Then there are a few that go into specifics. @RPGtravellerz called for “multiple options to disable cosmetics and operators,” which is a reasonable demand. And @EETOG1 came in and demanded, “Can you guys get rid of ‘cod hq’ it fucking sucks,” and yeah, the whole HQ thing’s been controversial since day one.
Then again, there’s the whole offline play debacle. @SygenWave went off with “Calendar is UNMARKED. NO OFFLINE SUPPORT = NO BUY SO GO FYS!!” which may or may not be the strongest statement ever. And @ImZPXACE told them to “Make it offline, improve zombies, make zombies 4 player split screen make it accessible online and offline,” which definitely indicates that the zombie mode community ain’t dead yet.
Well, that’s kind of calling out the cheaters in current COD games, too. @Hawkeyez_22 said, “Have played your current game at all?? Cheaters are in every game but you want me to buy the next one!! FU,” which we definitely feel. I mean, if the current games are riddled with cheaters, why should the players have expectations that the next one will be cleaner?
Then there’s the interesting number of comments which pit Black Ops 7 directly against Battlefield 6. @ilikedatunahere had said, “No thanks. BF6 it is until you get your heads unstuck from your rectal cavities. I’ve already switched and 2042 is still better.” And that’s the thing – Battlefield 2042 had plenty of issues, but players are going with it over what they see from COD.
Then there are some interesting… comments about character design @RePrimigenia stated “Thank you both for adding female characters in game and to make them look a bit uglier like they may or may not be transgender. Appreciate you 🙏🏻😘” which is… well, that’s a take for sure.
The visual comparisons were equally brutal. @EpicTeamGames said “Can’t spot the difference between this and donkey shit” while @andylaiz88 called it “what an absolute heap of dog shit. 😂🤡🤡🤡,” and @wolffoxguardian hopped in with a gif of someone eating garbage captioned “this is how you look when you per-order that shit game.” Harsh, but creative!
Even streamer reactions were brutal – @Error53YT noted, “The chat was Spamming L that they had to disable it LOL,” which tells you everything about the initial reception.
Here’s the absurd thing on my mind – despite all this negativity, Call of Duty is still on top of the sale charts year after year. The franchise is like that friend who keeps showing up to parties even though nobody really invited them but brings good snacks so everyone tolerates them. Black Ops 7 will sell in millions regardless of what Twitter says, because that’s just how COD rolls.
The real question though is whether Activision will address any of these concerns before November. The innovation complaints, the cheating problems, the always-online requirement, the comparison to Battlefield- these aren’t new issues but are loud points now with every release. And then, if things don’t improve, even some of the dedicated may actually just jump ship.
These days though? Mark your calendars for the 14th of November, whether in excitement or morbid curiosity. Madness is being embraced whether players want to or not. And judging by the early reactions, this may be the most divisive CoD launch in years – and that says something for a franchise that has been around this long. Butterfly emoji may represent the chaos that no one expected.
