The countdown for the next installment of Call of Duty, Black Ops 7, has been officially announced, and CharlieINTEL’s tweet confirms that the date to mark your calendar should be just 11 days away. The gamers’ world is, to say the least, very much divided… I mean really, really divided. Just picture the situations; a few players can’t seem to contain their joy, others aren’t even considering it while others again are just absolutely confused about the whole release date thing. It’s quite a loud atmosphere up there.
The tweet from Charlie Intel features a really simple countdown and it seems alongside the promotional artwork as the link suggests. However, the comments are the exact opposite and tell us a different story altogether. Murphy1170 is rough and clear on that; “Ain’t no one buying, we got @Battlefield and @ARCRaidersGame” which is pretty much… daring and very daring at the same time. The reply from 100xWalmart follows suit with the ‘controller rage countdown starts’ comment that really had me in stitches. Because we all are aware of that experience, right? Losing badly in a multiplayer game and throwing controllers in rage is just one aspect of the whole gaming experience.
Nevertheless, the conflict doesn’t end here. User BoxingBloke responded to a comment saying “I agree. I am hesitant to buy this game considering the very poor performance of BO6” which when speaking about the last Call of Duty title, makes the discussion very interesting indeed. On the other hand, GrimRequiem threw the developers under the bus with the “Same Game. Different Name” statement which has been in circulation among Call of Duty critics for decades.
Opposite to the critics, the excitement is also very much alive. The_Kelvinator_ was screaming “My body is READY” before a major release of a video game, with the very same vibe that we all share. Playonshaga mentioned “We’re so close 😏” with an emoji suggesting that they might have information. And AlaskanBussy did not hold back and just stated “Might have to preorder” which, honestly, is my exact situation too.
Dated also generate a lot of confusion – JamesMelon6998 asked “Doesnt it realess the 14th????” while making that old and funny typo that kids are often guilty of a lot. And chunkylilpeanut was quick to say “Don’t you mean 9?” implying that there could be and maybe has already been some early access granted in the whole thing. Ablah0 also seemed rather uncertain and wanted to know: “What about that earl access for vault edition? Or was it bait?” because we all know that gaming companies are mostly concerned with special editions that carry early access perks.
Simultaneously, the competition between Battlefield and Call of Duty is as hot as ever, with fplcameronk defending in a rebuttal to the comparison of the two franchises that “Bf6 already dead”. It gives one the impression of a shooting match in the forums of 2010 gaming and I must say I’m loving it.
The division among players is something I found very intriguing. One side of the coin is held by spineless115 who told another guy “The fans will miss out honestly and come back 5 years later and say ‘why did I not play this I missed out'” which is a classic case of gamers missing out a title because of its not-so-appealing marketing and then eventually discovering it and regretting they did not play at the launch.
Matthewvivenzio was really mean with his comment “The beginning of the end for cod started back in mw2019 and its been downhill ever since my guy! It definitely aint starting now lmao” – wow, that’s pretty tough criticism.
On the contrary, Prodbypollo is still here expressing his wish to play cursed mode, stating “I want to beat the easter egg on each relic” which actually means that they are very much leaning towards the zombies part of the game. Because let’s face it, Black Ops has always given its players the best zombies experience even if the other aspects aren’t that strong.
What a mess the whole thread is… A mess that is at the same time beautiful and chaotic and perfectly mirrors the current state of the COD community. The most loyal ones are literally counting the seconds, while the critics are already talking about the franchise getting tired, and the rest are just trying to understand exactly what is going on with the dates and the editions.
It is amazing to realize that this particular video game franchise still has so much passion surrounding it – be it positive or negative. After all those years, every new Call of Duty announcement still can get people to talk and fight and react emotionally in one way or another. It does not matter if you are the one that is looking forward to Black Ops 7 or thinking about giving up; the PlayStation and Xbox communities are both buzzing with anticipation.
