The Weapon Unlock Matrix was just made available by Call of Duty, and it is not a simple matrix guide, but rather a detailed guide that the developers themselves have offered. It is the go-to guide for players across the board, whether they are the hardcore completionists or the casual ones. This, of course, coincides with the game launch, where people are trying to discover the most efficient ways to level their guns.
However, the community reaction was not different from the usual reactions amongst avid gamers. Mixed feelings could at least be one way of putting it. A portion of the community has welcomed this new weapon and camouflage system, while others have started to complain about their troubles with the game early on.
John Bartlett was one of the players who vented his frustration over the cheaters who he says are ruling the lobby. The gamer, in fact, was telling how bad the shooting experience was because of the existence of hacking in the lobbies. He was very mad lamenting how the anticheat is not able to stop cronus strike packs and DS4 windows. Also, he informed that he was online watching a person cheating by using walls and he was also offering cheats during that live stream, for three hours. He even posted “Your game is shit . Already cheaters in lobbys . The anticheat doesnt detect cronus strike packs or DS4 windows .And ive just sat and watched a dude cheat live with walls showing on the stream offering the cheats and hes been live for 3 hrs . Your full of lies”. Those are very strong words, and it shows the never-ending war against cheating which has been a hallmark of every Call of Duty title.
In addition, the ongoing issue of aim assist has always sparked controversies. The player who goes by the name Vinny tweeted “@CallofDuty @Treyarch Fix the aim assist pls” which is uncontroversial if you consider that he has been around the Call of Duty community for more than five minutes, you know that this is a continuous complaint regardless of the actual functioning of the aim assist. It’s almost like a tradition now.
There are some players who are already way past the high prestige levels and that has left the others to wonder. “How are people already prestige 5 already the fuck” was the question posted by the user boo_yeah12, and honestly, that is a perfectly valid question. Either the people awake have not slept since launch or they have found some amazing XP farming method that has not yet been discovered. Probably both knowing the Call of Duty community.
However, the camo system is getting a bit of positive attention. The user Loxys mentioned that camos should cover the whole weapon including magazines, just like in the earlier Call of Duty games. “add the camo also on the mag of every weapons and not just on the gun, they will be way better, as it was on OG cod” was the tweet with a screenshot for reference. It’s the small details like these that long-time players really pick up on and appreciate.
And Zombies mode has not been spared from the issues that come with launch. SpartanTsg was one of the players who reported connectivity problems saying, “You can’t play zombies even on a save file right now as it will say ‘lost connection to server’ before loading in.” The struggles of the server during the launch week are more or less expected, but still, it can be a source of frustration for those players who just want to get right into the undead action.
Another problem that the whole crossplay situation is causing is confusion. R3V3R3ND_T0AST who plays on Xbox expressed disappointment that he thought he had disabled crossplay but was still getting matched with PC players. “I also have crossplay turned off and he said he was on pc. Why do Xbox players have no choice but to play with pc when we turn crossplay off?” is how he put it. This cross-platform matchmaking has been a contentious issue since it was first introduced, with console players often feeling that they are at a disadvantage when playing against mouse and keyboard users.
At the same time, some players already think about cosmetics in addition to camos. Ryangofett_2490 tweeted “We want grounded cosmetics. CoD is military FPS. Make it military themed” which is quite interesting because Call of Duty has been gradually moving towards more extravagant cosmetics recently. The conflict between realistic military aesthetics and flashy, attention-grabbing themes has always been prevalent in the franchise and will be for the time to come. Aim assist has been a hot topic in the PlayStation community as well.
