The big news that’s been making a huge buzz out there is that Battlefield 6 will be having a battle royale mode, with an October 28 release date rumored; hence, it might drop toward the end of the month. All the more, the battle royale might be free-to-play. Yep, free! Here is where you get your breaking news!
Ghostly rumors being spread about on Twitter by ModernWarzone, and honestly, the community has had some MIXED responses to this. I mean, people have definitely gone a bit crazy in the replies.
Some are super excited about this; an individual named Kaine Richardson, for example, says: “Call of Duty is fucked ππ BATTLEFIELD 6 FTW!!!!” with the fire emojis; others, however, seem a bit more shy and only say, “Looks so good π” – a short statement but full of effusive excitement.
Some individuals seem to lack confidence in the battle royale. Quoting Tj, who said, “Dead on arrival. Battlefield doesn’t need battle royale.” Then Hunter Soles said, “We do not care”- whoa! bro, you really had to say it out loud, huh?
There’s back and forth about whether this going to compete with Call of Duty. BlackWidow says competition is GOOD. “COD needed competition so they don’t feel comfortable and throw at us half baked games skinned as creepy uncle of Fortnite,” which, okay, that wild description somehow clarifies their argument.
More are speaking to the free to play features. Jabsfordayz says, “Of course it is free to play nobody would buy it otherwise” which… honestly fair point. And itzkingofthe90s warmed up to the thought of it being free; “GOOOOD. I WOULDNT PLAY IT OTHERWISE” – totally my mood too.
There are some holding on to a rather unpleasant memory of Battlefield’s previous battle royale Firestorm. LordSin34 reminded everyone, “Firestorm was pay to play too,” which, yeah, that didn’t turn out well, did it? And YeetasThaFeetas solidified the case by saying, “not really innovative in any way,” and that hurt.
A bit of uncertainty lingers about whether you’d have to own the base BF6 game to participate in the battle royale, though. “So I don’t need to own BF6 or what?” asked Moltisanti. That’s a fair question if the battle royale is free-to-play. I’m guessing it’ll be something to do with Warzone.
According to Tuggernut, the timing is perfect: “Let us run the campaign and some MP before everybody runs to the BR mode.” Meanwhile, Boyrat is going to say it will launch alongside Season 1, which makes a lot of sense.
And then, we have CoD fans. Caben_nft started a ton of controversy when it declared, “Change my mind cod is better than battlefield,” and people went OFF in retaliation. DrexCS2 replied to that with “old cod 100% but new cod sucks ass”, which, frankly, I agree. Then AriaMiky retorted, “Why would anyone try and change your mind, if you like cod more play that, nothing wrong with it and nobody cares” – which is oddly the most reasonable statement in the whole thread.
Plans of gaming together are already in the works. Weream tagged a bunch of people, “im down to try this if yall are” – actual squad goals.
Then comes the big question: this thing will be good or not? BamBam said this would reduce the amount of players they can pull and how popular and big the BR can get if they decide to go paid instead, which is true because player count means everything in a battle royale.
Bring the haters in. HunterSoles1, once again, proclaimed it “dogshit” before it even came out. Like… give it a chance maybe? Meanwhile, ewt3we12 just responded with “and I will be skipping that lol.” – cool story, bro.
And then, the hype gets more real. neovertex01 states, “Free to playπ gonna be a lot of fun,” paired with the all-seeing-eyes emoji. And Lion is just following along with unfiltered hype: “This is gonna be awesome!!!”
Benjo is panicking for Warzone, “NOOOOOO PLEASE CHARLIE SAVE WARZONE!!!”- chill out, man; there is room for more than one battle royale. The whole thread is like beautiful chaos from excitement, skepticism, and outright toxicity-providing gaming Twitter can. Some think it will destroy Call of Duty; others think it’s doomed from the start, and everyone has an opinion on whether Battlefield even needs a battle royale.
What’s interesting is how many people are comparing it to Firestorm, the other one, prior attempt at Battlefield battle royale, which… didn’t exactly set the world ablaze. The fact that this new one is rumored to start as free to play shows that they’ve at least learned from that mistake.
Late October is also a pretty smart timing, giving people time to play the main game first before jumping in the battle royale. And if it’s free, that could really push for an immense playerbase from the word go.
The question still remains, though: can it really compete with Warzone? Warzone has been the shadow behind the military shooter battle royale space for the past few years. But if folks gushed about how good the Battlefield 6 gameplay is, and it’s a stay-worthy battle royale… who even knows?
The community seems however divided; a few are already counting a win over Call of Duty, while others think it is a waste of time. And there are those sensible ones who are willing to mince both games and are left wondering why everything should be a competition.
At the end of the day, more free games can never be a bad thing. If a Battlefield 6 battle royale is good, great! If not, well… at least it was free, right? The rumored October 28 date is still a rumor and thus hold your breath till EA releases the official statement.
That will be closely watched by the community. It’s hard to break into battle royale, but if anyone has a serious chance of unseating Call of Duty, it’d be Battlefield. Or it might just crash and burn like Firestorm. Only time will tell, really.
The game is expected to be available on both PlayStation and Xbox.
