Hype for gamers is something they’ll never get tired of. Due to this huge announcement of a game, within 24 hours of announcing its existence, the title had grown at top levels of preorders on the PS5 and Steam. That is right, just 24 hours. And the internet does have a say.
EA and DICE gave us a teaser for what will be called Battlefield 6, or whatnot, and the hype was a great tsunami that built around it. So much hype that people were actually grabbing at their wallets to invest in it in the few days before granting their money for being the last chopper out from Nam. Now that is really classic.
Some are however not impressed at all. The comment sections under the original tweet have turned into a sort of battleground. Some gamers are side-eyeing the preorder madness after the Battlefield 2042-“Thing,” you know, the one that almost set off a collective “oof” at launch. One user, @Yourewrong1003, basically said preorders are “a scam”: “Pay for it in full then play their test version lol. Then when it releases it’s a crap shoot and you don’t get your money back.” Harsh, but fair inasmuch.
Conversely, there are those that decided to shout out, “YOLO; I’m preordering anyway.” In @Baseball4Ever99’s own words, “I’m preordering so I can play on the 7th and 8th, I’m too anxious to play.” And really, that’s just the vibe. FOMO is very real in the experience with early access just being chopped up and shared around.
Then we have @Ryangofett_2490 saying he basically made it through the game and is quite confident that it’s going to be good: “This Battlefield is gonna be incredible.” Okay, Ryan, we hear you. But let’s also remember-this is that very same franchise that brought us Battlefield V’s… interesting launch. So, skepticism is warranted.
Then came the chaotic neutral energy from @rickity_wrecks, who stated, “I don’t care about twitch codes or becoming a portal member. I’m not a kid in my parents basement watching people play video games either. I’m buying the game regardless.” Iconic. No questions asked.
The icing? @YTUncleNinja summarized the entire discourse in one tweet: “I thought we weren’t gonna preorder??? Lmao.” And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, is the tea. “Gamers say they won’t preorder but the trailer comes then hype machine starts revving, and wallets are opening faster than you can say microtransactions.”
So what’s the takeaway? Whether we wanted it or not, Battlefield 6 has already won the preorder wars. Will it live up to the hype? Who knows. But one thing is for certain: the drama has just set off. Buckle up, soldiers, this is going to be a bumpy ride.
