Be ready, if you want to bask in multiplayer magnificence, on a show hitting the air on July 31st. EA and DICE are finally unleashing what may really be the biggest disrupter into the military-shooter genre ever since… well, the last time Battlefield decided it wanted to go for Call of Duty. According to the vibe in the online community, this one might actually roll down that road.
The official reveal will start at 11:30 a.m. PT on July 31, with CharlieIntel covering literally every explosion, every tank flip (No, seriously, someone will 360 no-scope with a tank), and all the resultant chaos that somehow gives the ambience to Battlefield. But the actual juice is not just the reveal; there is a changing sentiment in the air that this may just be the game to knock COD off its pedestal. Or, at the very least, sweat for Activision.
For some time now, COD has been cruising. SBMM (that’s skill-based matchmaking for the lucky few who do not know the meaning of pain), recycled maps, and… whatever Black Ops 7 is supposed to be, the players are thirsty for something fresh nowadays. And Battlefield 6 might just be that meal. Or rather, a fairly substantial snack.
The replies to CharlieIntel’s tweet are filled with anticipation, spreads of doubt, and some bitter “COD is evil” slander. Scene one: The classic MLG solana420 bestows a truth: “If this multiplayer is made with passion they have the chance to finally dethrone COD.” Next opining actor-Giriiss says, “COD is dead already.” Harsh? Perhaps. But if even those that made up the MLG audience are jumping ship, you have to recognize a few interesting things.
Then there’s the whole Battle Royale Question: “What about Battle Royale mode? Any news?” So, basically, that is really the million-dollar question. IF BF6 drops a real BR that isn’t just another Warzone clone… it might just force… COD to actually… innovate? Scary thought. Aggihs even threatened to uninstall COD if BF6’s BR delivers. The nerve. The disrespect. We love it.
(Of course, there are still those who need a little convincing.) MarkOfTheWolf2 erupted after a few hits with: “If BF6 goes anything like the last few, that company is in trouble.” Fair enough. Battlefield 5 and Battlefield 2042… yeah, no. But the hype train is rolling now, and EA is aboard them with the BF3 music teasers, No-SBMM rumors (shoutout to I_Am_Sal__ for that spicy take), and statements about “real military games” (thanks again, Camerawbonner) to stir the pot.
Where do we stand? Too early to tell yet. One thing we know, though: Things are going to get crazy on July 31. If you have only a crumb of love for Battlefield, are a deserter of COD, or simply love to watch gaming drama unfold, it’s a must-watch. And if BF6 tanks? We’ll always have those sweet sweet memes.
See you guys on the battlefield. Or the warzone. Or whatever they’re calling it this time.
