Imagine having been treated with a massive update package for Assassin’s Creed Shadows by Ubisoft—that put the players in a tizzy thinking of what unfolds next. It showed the roadmap for the months ahead, including New Game+, community update, and fresh expansion. Now let us deep-dive into it: someone who knows AC could never miss this.
Reasonably hitting the first from the list: New Game+ arrives July 29. This is a BIG thing for those who did finish the main story and want to now dive in for another go with all their gear and skills intact. One Scott (@bulldog5278) on Twitter had put it rather well: “Ng+ this is what I’ve been waiting for thank you 🔥💯.” And I feel the same. Replaying with all your upgrades is just special.
Apart from that, an AMA, scheduled for August 12, with the devs will see people asking their burning questions on pretty much anything they want, from game mechanics, lore, updates, etc. This will roll out into the first week of September or so with a community update, most probably consisting of fixes, tweaks, and maybe surprises. And shout of those surprises, Claws of Awaji drops on September 16. No word on what it will involve yet, but judging from how prior AC DLCs do, new story content, some gear, and maybe even a map area can be expected.
Very few players are Nos. Just like Vic (@Vicodin10_) has termed it outright “A waste of money,” pegging his argument on that ever-present: repetitive side mission. Oof! Others wanted to offer some worthy gripes; Conrado Cesare (@Kobe8ph) said, “Calling in a horse and auto mounting ruins the immersion especially as its coming FASTER THAN A BULLET.” Uh-huh, that really does sound like an issue here.
Some fans, meanwhile, are still bitter about the end of Valhalla. Clayton Sterling (@Claytoncyre) responded: “The saddest part about Shadows was truly feeling the end of Valhalla.” MysticFL1 (@MysticFL1B) said: “Still wish Valhalla had game plus!!” Ubisoft better take heed—there’s obviously NG+ demand for the older ones.
Now, the usual chaos of hype and madness ensues. One player (@Melnalksnis1) asked for a permadeath mode “because true assassins only have one life.” Another requested Ubisoft to “make an update that kicks out woke.” Uh… moving on.
Here we reach the biggest issue: the framerate. Matt G (@loinmin) says, “Lol uncapped framerate cutscenes only,” while another player (@medipax94) ranted, “2025 and we still get 30fps cutscenes in games like wtf.” They do have a point. A bit of next-gen optimization, anyone?
And the verdict? Assassin’s Creed Shadows is slated for several stellar updates that would be enough reason for most people to come back for New Game+. But that said, with the mixed reception of the base game, Ubisoft will have to do some work to win over the doubters. Anyways, put a ring on that date on your calendar—July 29 will prove to be a hot date for AC fans. Well, for those that haven’t rage quit about horse physics.
