Assassin’s Creed Shadows has released today the Claws of Awaji expansion for Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and players are having a time, to say the least. The DLC rightly takes Naoe and Yasuke off onto a mysterious island beyond Osaka Bay. Nice. But gaining access to the mini-adventure proved to be such a big deal.
Upon the announcement of the DLC from the official Assassin’s Creed account, many replies flooded with confusion and technical issues. Peter Simmons outright asked, “How do we access it, I pre-ordered the game and it still wants me to pay??”- I would be irritatedheck.” And he was not alone-THEBOI31998 had the exact same issue: “I pre-ordered and it’s still asking me to pay for the DLC? I should have this for free? The code I got with the pre-order gave me the dog quest but not the DLC, and I can’t re-enter it? Tf.”
Mood. You paid for the special edition for this supplementary content, and the system doesn’t seem to recognize it? Oof. Next up, GG x ScOpeZ plainly says “It’s not there for me,” which, honest to God, means the same thing. And bdonny94 asked, “Where’s the update Ubisoft?” along with a crying emoji-that would be all of us when promised game content doesn’t show up on time.
Also, add another berry on top: some players have kind of found the workaround. An user named ‘!’ tweeted what might actually be the solution: “For everyone who’s having trouble playing the DLC, u have to download it straight from the PS store.” Jake (badonkadonkies) confirmed: “Guys you have to download on the PlayStation store (or Xbox or Steam).” It’s pretty logical-but then how on Earth did Ubisoft omit such an important detail from their announcement? Like, “Hey, go to your platform’s store to download” hardly would have been the hardest thing to say.
Between all those technical mayhem, some players are already enjoying it while. JorRaptor, AKA da dude of Assassin’s Creed, Tweeted, “It’s a really good time, have fun everyone!” which is nice, but in a way, it is kind of rubbing it in the face of those who cannot get it yet. Then, TheRealZephryss appreciated, “Really enjoyed the DLC. Thank you Assassin’s Creed!” with a happy emoji, so at least somebody’s having a good time.
There also seems to be a mysterious “Bo staff” weapon that several people inquire about. TOP5IIVE_ outright asked: “How do we get the Bo staff?” Whereas AKHNATUN7 asked: “How can I get go with the bo quest?” I’m guessing this is either wonders about a new weapon, or about a quest in the DLC? The translation may be a bit off, but it’s pretty clear that there’s something really cool out there that they’d like to get their hands on.
And then there’s always a whole bunch of random questions to pop up after a game announcement: WulfUlfhednar decided to use this moment to ask, “Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Remake when? Also, when are we getting more news of Assassin’s Creed: Hex?” Like, bro, we’re just trying to figure how to download the DLC that came out today; maybe save the future game requests for another time?
It’s amped up, though: Lucas #AlienEarth👽🌎 with popcorn and explosion emojis shouted, “WOHOOOOO Happy Release Day!” That’s the energy we all want to be embodying right now. Dossary🦉| 𐕣 shared an “IM SO READY” hype video tagging a friend, so it’s all energy from the community-the problem is just getting the content into their hands.
Classic launch problems: New content drops, some get it working right away, some technical snags come on, and then the whole community starts complaining on Twitter until they figure out a solution. At least there seems to be a solution about just going directly to your platform’s store and downloading the DLC separately rather than expecting it to just appear in your game.
In the meantime, Uber has not come out about the technical issues yet (at least not in these Tweets), so given how many people are having the same problems, they’ll likely be coming out with some kind of official guidance pretty soon. So meantime, while you’re looking for the Claws of Awaji expansion, and it’s hiding from you, just go down to your platform and visit the store and search for it directly! Apparently, this is the magic trick that everyone that’s actually playing is using.
The expansion itself sure looks cool-new island to explore and continue the stories about Naoe and Yasuke, probably with a new set of weapons and gear to acquire. Past all of the download drama, the one should be a great addition to Assassin’s Creed Shadows. All that is left to do is to bear day-one technical turbulence, which is so much like gaming in 2024, really.
So if you’re trying to get into the new DLC and it’s not showing up, don’t panic-tox-just check your platform store directly! If that does not work… well, maybe Ubisoft might patch whatever is broken now. Welcome to the life today of a gamer!
