Ubisoft’s official Assassin’s Creed account asked a question on social media a short time ago where players could reveal their top Kassandra moments from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. This question then led to a huge discussion in the gaming community about the favorite character. The post displayed Kassandra in a bold scene, but then the comments that followed turned out to be even more interesting than expected.
Ubisoft’s official account, in a way, was posing a harmless question, or was it? Just “What’s your favorite Kassandra moment from #AssassinCreedOdyssey?” together with a breathtaking screenshot. However, the replies then revealed the whole Kassandra versus Alexios conflict that has been raging since the game’s release in 2018, exploding in a big way. It is incredible to see just how strong people’s passions are!
The split among gamers was immediately visible. Kassandra was obviously the most liked for some and one of the players Rooflemonger, who did not give any reason, just said, “man I love kassandra”. Another player Sophia was rather positive with her remarks saying, “All of them”, which is virtually the highest form of praise. Conversely, JP could be heard saying, “Who cares about her Alexios was better” and Bigdaddywoodlin declared, “Alexios is the real GOAT.” Wow! Do you people need to make a choice?
A completely different realm of the canon character debate has been opened which is very exciting to watch. TJ asked the big question to lay out the facts: “So was Kassandra the Canon character to play as in this AC? Cause I never see anybody play or talk about Alexios as much as her.” And he is right – Kassandra has shown up in games like Valhalla which kind of secures her being the main character. Baha31105225 backed this up saying, “Yeah shes the canon character. As you meet her in Valhalla later on during the Isle of Skye missions.”
But wait, here is where it starts to get complicated – David ✠ came in with very intense words: “Alexios is the true, natural protagonist. Kassandra was the villain. You may try as much as you want to promote her as the protagonist, but your players have spoken.” He refers to the early player choice statistics indicating a larger portion of players selecting Alexios at the start. Nevertheless, Demi Gabriel pointed out that those stats are “already obsolete” since Kassandra has been featured in other games and crossovers.
It is funny that some players are just watching and enjoying the show. For example, financebrolavi said, “I love odyssey no matter what the reviews say!!” and that is really a mood. Neuromante, conversely, termed it “One of the best AC” games ever. But then there was SrcasticGamer who went full rage mode choosing to refer to it as “One of the BIGGEST GARBAGE AC Game of all times. I mean, this is one big pile of human excrement!” That’s really straightforward, why don’t you just tell us what you feel about it, man?
The players’ favorite moments have been shared in a very humorous way. Horrorholic1 narrated a scene that “caught me so off guard I just burst out laughing 😂” and stonedmisthios mentioned “Kassandra snappin on Kleon” with some laughing emojis. CorySumm3rs had a weird coincidence of having preserved an old game file and being in the same position as in the tweet – which is either wonderful timing or some matrix glitch stuff.
And then the situation gets even more tangled with the whole Layla Hassan/Loki trilogy connection that Sam Pavlov mentioned, which honestly left me more confused about the present-day storyline. Wait, what was I saying? Oh, character debate again.
It’s evident from this whole mess, that Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is still being played by a very vocal and passionate player community after many years. The Kassandra vs. Alexios conflict will probably never end, but it has the game linked with the discussions that arose. One part of the players prefers Kassandra for her no-nonsense attitude while the others are taken by Alexios’s flamboyant delivery-in that warehouse fighting side by side with Brasidas as narrated by KeroBlack.
At the end of the day, it is very nice that one tweet can cause such a heated debate on an old character preference. Regardless of whether you belong to Team Kassandra, Team Alexios, or simply Team “I Love Ancient Greece,” it is indisputable that Odyssey has had a lasting impact on the Assassin’s Creed community. The debate might go on forever, but it is quite clear that the emotional bond between the players and the characters as well as their stories, which is a sign of the game’s persistent impact, is still strong.
PlayStation and Xbox players continue to enjoy these gaming experiences across different platforms.
