A new update for Arma Reforger Experimental was recently shipped by Bohemia Interactive on Steam, and gamers dived right into the changelogs for what’s new. Having the updates, PC users are keeping themselves busy trying them out. With that, Xbox users must wait in bitter disappointment.
Such things are why version 1.5, the next update, brings fixes, changes, and probable surprises buried deep in the patch notes. The official Arma Platform arm-wrestled the changelog in reply, but the good stuff isn’t in the notes; rather, it lies in the comments. Xbox players flooded the replies with one question-well, when will we play?
“Honestly why don’t you release on Xbox exp version? We really don’t mind if it’s unstable as shit that’s what experimental is for,” tweeted @Elizalde_Gaming. And they’re not alone as multiple users chimed in on the delay, with @obunga1266098 remarking in all caps: “No xbox experimental again is ass we waited ages after 1.3 exp launched for pc for us to be able to try it out.”
These characteristics aren’t characteristic only of leaving the console behind because some PC players start debating realism-changes in the update. User @Tonskatemore argues that restricting gear by artificial supply restrictions instead of weight-size forces the game to feel “arcadey.” User @deathwish11120 argued that it is pretty much realistic to not allow privates to hoard RPGs and grenades.
Here’s the modding debate: @DnAStudioBs went off demanding that Bohemia switch to Steam Workshop and ditch their “cyber-fascist censorship system on mods!!!!” (Yes, the triple exclamation points were included.) Then there are @codie403 types, who dismiss the question, saying “It’s not their fault server owners can’t figure out how to use less mods.”
Then, in the chaos, there are the guys who just want some basic fixes. “A fix for the freezing on consoles @ArmaPlatform, please,” begged @Joseph_No_Cap. @BLThompson88 whined about missing claymore mines, “No claymore Mine my day is ruined …”
Where do they go from here? While making it available for all Steam users to download and install, Xbox experimental users remain in limbo. Without an explicit schedule, the developer has kept the console users for guessing and venting on Twitter, while the PC crowd is busy dissecting all that has changed, debating realism, and probably blowing things up in true Arma style.
One thing’s for sure: while being on the salt list or amid people hyped for the update, the Arma Reforger community remains loud and passionate. Now, if only the Xbox lot was able to contribute just a little bit to the chaos.
