Just a few hours ago, Respawn Entertainment unveiled the haunts and the ultimate nightmare event – Apex Legends, with a longer list of chilling activities through a post titled “Trick or Treat”. The post contained some kind of media, which most likely was intended to show new skins or animations for the Fight or Fright event. Nevertheless, the whole community had mixed emotions over the developers’ efforts to capitalize on the Halloween spirit as the day was only a few days away.
From the very beginning, players got the impression of legends being either favourites or non-existent characters. The protagonist one intro animation for Mirage is what the player is most thrilled about and even goes as far as calling it “an absolute winner” whilst issuing the remark “Mirage won the ‘Who got the best intro’ and it is not even close”. On the contrary, Revenants’ main players are feeling completely ignored – which is rather ironic since he is the spooky dead robot who would be the perfect character for Halloween. One user even asked, “Why didn’t revenant get an animation He’s literally THE Halloween character ππππ” and honestly? They do have a strong argument on that.
The situation with skins is nothing but a catalyst for increased drama. A section of gamers is not satisfied and assert that one part of the legends is getting their Halloween skins repeated year after year while other part has to make do with nothing. “Why does pathy and wraith gets another Halloween skins again??” one player posed, while an Octane player was asking for nicer skins, saying “can u give octane some cool skins please. im tired of these chopped octane skins.” And then the pricing factor comes into play – one individual highlighted the “Halloween bundle prices” saying you “can’t even buy the skin alone” and went as far as dubbing EA “desperate for that Saudi money.” Another simply remarked “3000 coins is trick indeed π” which… oof.
It would probably not be an Apex update if there at least some players would not grumble about balancing or report bugs. Caustic players are extremely annoyed because of the recent reworks and one of them even said, “Give caustic his passive back. It literally is the character. He should never take damage in gas.” They also want the UI for gas barrels and ults removed, calling it “terrible.” However, there is also another group of players who face technical difficulties – one of them spoke about the “error (code:leaf)” he was getting when he was trying to queue for ranked, while another user claimed “a bunch of my legends and cosmetics have disappeared” after installing the game again.
Community disputes are also gaining passion. Players now have started an entire thread discussing Caustic’s current situation in which they keep trying to determine whether he is actually in a good place or has been completely ruined. One user supported the recent changes by saying, “he is in one of his best states ever since a long time” while others keep asking for him to be immune to his own gas again. And then the matter of rank decay comes up again – one user warns, “Rank decay is wrost. You will loose more players, dont implement it” while another one raises the problem of smurf account issue.
Even amidst all that, there are players who ask practical questions like “Wats the best guns to use atm? I stopped playing in season 3 and have just come back” and others posing hypothetical questions about the shifts in the meta with “We must be getting a 301 and flatline meta soon π”. There are even some random account recovery services being advertised in the threads, which always is an interesting sight.
So, what is now our take on the Apex Halloween event? This is totally in the spirit of Respawn – they launch some eye-catching, but then the pricing and hero favoritism divide the community straight off. Some gamers praise the new Mirage animation and call some skins “tuff” while others complain about their mains getting no attention or being nerfed to experience complete silence. Halloween is still alive, but so is the usual Apex drama – it is difficult to tell which one is more pronounced, but isn’t it one of the reasons we adore the game so much?
The seasonal event is nothing short of a classic Apex update – flushing players with fantastic but overpriced cosmetics, some characters being pampered while others silently suffering, and the same tech-related issues recurring for a few players. Nevertheless, at least Mirage is out there contesting for winning the best intro animation and that is something we can all agree on. Maybe. Probably not really, because after all, this is Apex we are dealing with – sooner or later someone will find a way to whine about that too.Β The event is also available on PlayStation and Xbox platforms.
