Respawn Entertainment has since launched the latest Apex prop guide featuring the ever-mythic Grand Slam Bat as the star of show. These extensive reference images present the baseball bat from all possible angles-the canvas was well and truly behind its glorification and infamous reputation in the current game meta. But as the devs gave us an odd little 3D modeling tutorial, the players’ response was… well, somewhat different.
Upon the official Apex account posting what they said were “cool reference images of the bat,” the post was hurriedly bombarded with complaints about Wildcard mode. Scheerlijn gave the very first reply: “The bat is going but the running animation should be different. It makes no sense to hold it like a kunai 😂 Also, get rid of the bat in Wildcard. Wildcard is a lot of fun but the bat ruins it.” And he is not alone in this-the one with the username “MrVampzi” just straightforwardly replied, “remove this from wildcard please,” and some other users came to second him.
Talk about turning a prop guide into a whirlwind of endless complaining about game balance. But that’s the thing about Apex players-you just can’t throw them an occasion without them tearing the devs apart about what’s wrong with the game. One player began complaining about the matchmaking: “The fucking matchmaking for solo q rank is DOG SHIT!!!!!!!!!!! FIX THE SHIT!!!!!!,” and that practically sets the tone.
There are some good comments in there. Gro3 stated, “Detailed guides like this are invaluable for creators and collectors.” And that’s true-these prop guides do have great use for cosplayers and 3D artists to reproduce both the Apex weapons and their best anyway. Another comment was from Kristie-The girl will now spend her hard-earned shards. I have 300 saved up. Soon 150. This is cool! So at least a few of them are excited about the bat.
The Grand Slam Bat is among those mythic weapons you can buy with heirloom shards; it’s basically a sarcastic catty baseball bat that knocks the enemy out. PKontogior90759 boasted about the Binch: “The Bat is easily the best mythic in Apex. I can smack Vantage and send her flying higher than her own ult. 😅,” horrifically fun on the receiving end and so much fun for the user.
Meanwhile, the whole other thread about Caustic changes actually popped up on the Grand Slam Bat post. Jolly_smoke said, “If he takes damage, then so should Catalyst,” and I’m just like, “Bro, this is a post about a baseball bat. What are you even talking about?” So yeah, the comment sections on these official tweets always derail spectacularly.
From there, can we talk about the wild appeal for “Can we please get an unban wave for people who sweared in chat? It’s been 2 years and I still wanna play the game 😔,” courtesy of brudgeuhr? Like, my guy, this just ain’t the place, but that’s a mood too, I guess.
It was really detailed-they showcased the bat from all angles, close-up shots of the grip, light hitting it from the surface-they really go nuts for 3D artists and hardcore fans alike. Another prop guide in a series Respawn uses to give players behind-the-scenes looks into their game’s assets. But community sentiment clearly tells that the players have other immediate priorities to address.
What is funny is how many people are specifically complaining about the bat in Wildcard. Wildcard is a limited-time mode where you start with random loadouts, and apparently the appearance of the Grand Slam Bat in Wildcard is causing problems. Multiple comments say it’s not fun to play against, much like people feel about the Buster Sword and EPG in that mode.
There are also complaints about the running animation-players saying characters hold the bat the same way they hold kunais, which looks kinda weird for a baseball bat. It’s those little details that players notice and get bothered by.
Here and there among all the bitching are good questions. Jalaguy wonders, “Any chance of a prop guide for the Sky Piercer too? Was curious to learn if there was any in-universe lore for that one…” which is a good question. Sky Piercer is Valkyrie’s heirloom, so it would be nice to look into that one deeply too.
Then things go sideways with color complaints-chasebekk said, “I can top all of those skins with an instant thought as soon as i seen those trash colors lol. Make one that’s see through(clear). Another thought… Maybe a neon one aswell like cyber punk. Glows neons……. whats up with these bland ass ideas.” Like bro they’re just showing the default bat model but okay.
The fact that these official tweets turn into wild brawls between useful info, random complaints, off-topic discussions, and the occasional shots of positivity is quite funny. The Apex community is anything but calm in terms of passion-for-instance, they managed to start yelling about matchmaking on a post about 3D models.
That is to say, these prop guides are cool for artists and creators within the community, yet the responses evidence that players have bigger issues about actual gameplay. Those reference images sure make the Grand Slam Bat look cool, but maybe it is time Respawn looks into it real seriously since it’s ruining fun in Wildcard.
The conversation around this thing is all over the place – from animation complaints to mode balance issues to random ban appeals to Caustic meta discussions. It’s like a microcosm of the entire Apex community’s concerns all dumped into one tweet’s replies. And somewhere in there is actually some appreciation for the detailed reference material, I guess.
The Grand Slam Bat prop guide is fully out with in-depth reference images released for proper referencing. What the players really want, though, is for the bat itself to be less annoying in Wildcard. Perhaps, once the Respawn team finishes taking pretty pictures of their digital baseball bat, it can get some attention.
