Respawn Entertainment unveiled a strikingly short video in the Apex Legends presentation that illustrated splendidly the new sword animations and even remarked it is ‘Duality at its finest’ along with the sword emojis. But what about the players? Completely split, dude! Half of the community is very much looking forward to new cosmetics while other half is giving game-breaking bugs and weird pricing complaints. What a muddle!

So, what exactly are the new swords? The official Apex Twitter account shared this short clip in which the swords of the duel are viewed up close in the game, and honestly, they look great. The animation is perfect, the swords have a very pleasant light—this is certainly the best cosmetic work ever. But then you but the replies and you feel the duality is indeed there. It is like two very disparate discussions happening concurrently.

On one side, there are gamers who are absolutely amazed. For instance, one user called Ex | Zyn wrote ‘Yall did so well on these! So proud of you guys! Great job guys!’ with some salute and heart emojis. Another user with the name of James as a service asked for more of the behind-the-scenes animation stuff because he adored seeing it. So there are clearly some people who are in favor of the new melee weapons from Respawn.

Nevertheless… the other side of this issue exists. And it is a tough issue. Very tough, in fact. Reports are coming from some console gamers about mmediately vanishing and so severe technical problems during their gameplay that they are not able to enjoy the game at all. One gamer by the name of Ali Erdogan recounted his experience saying; ‘Recently, while playing Apex Legends on PS5, my game has frozen and crashed 2-3 times. The game just freezes, I cannot do anything, and then it throws an error and closes.’ And he is not alone—another player told about his similar problem that he had so often that he couldn’t use his console anymore because it kept freezing due to the game.

There is also JR who honestly said ‘Hello the titan 2 is destroying console’ which, in my opinion, sounds quite bad. And JamirYO went even further by stating ‘As console gamers, we are suffering from FPS drops, lag, delays and fluctuations. We expect you to fix these first. Do you realize that Apex is dying? Moreover, ban Cronüs Zen. Even BF6 was banned.’ That’s some seriously deep-seated anger.

And what about the price? Because that’s the most discussed topic in the comments. A user called WellHmz wrote: ‘300$ for some pixels’ alongside those skull emojis that perfectly fit the message. Another user, carlee, said, ‘These go so hard but would go even harder if they didn’t cost half of my car payment’ which, to be honest, was funny but also ouch. Nova was just straight up with: ‘Shame it’s locked by a paywall!’ and HoundRaiser chimed in with ‘Over prices like all you cosmetic at its finest’—wait, did I get that right? Over prices? Never mind, you get the point.

It’s a very odd scenario where helish_88 has a perfect take on it saying: ‘Fix bugs, improve anticheat, improve audio ❌ Add new heirlooms, recolors ✅’ using that tick and cross combo that just resonates differently. It is like players are feeling the same way—the priorities are upside down when there are still so many technical issues plaguing the game.

Even sword animations received mixed reviews. MrLisbon was of the opinion that ‘This inspect is good but the other where you turn it upside down and swing it back and fouth looks like a kid playing with a sword lol’—back and fouth, see? Even the comments have typos, making it all the more real. And Kimbap remarked ‘swords cool music not so much’ alongside a video which showed, I guess, better music? Not sure but the point is even the cosmetics are not getting unanimous praise.

Some players are making direct requests for certain changes. izzygrizz331 is of the opinion that they should ‘Go back to Legend specific Heirlooms’ instead of this new system whatever it is. king_solaris is dissatisfied there is no white and gold style but admires the overall look. And TheOncey is pondering the ‘the breakdown of the future plans of bald wraith skins’ which…what? Bald Wraith? Is this a thing? I am unsure but it sounds hilarious.

The thing that really stands out is how deleteallTTVers just stated it plainly: ‘Can you say “here look at what you can buy” instead of fixing the game’—and like, that is the main issue here, isn’t it? Players think that Respawn is mainly concerned with the money aspect of things in this battle royale title.
