Respawn Entertainment, in all fairness, did drop some juicy bits of news that shocked Apex Legends players worldwide-the Creator Tournament Series gets to kick off this month! Streamers @nirunno and @karodeza will be the first featured stops. “The beginning of a new tournament series opens up in September,” said the official PlayApex Twitter. Now, this actually is a new way of bringing some sick gameplay from pop content creators.
Further to that, the tweet supplied channel links to these creators as well as some gorgeous artwork advertising possibly the tournament’s branding. But things spiraled down into messiness as results did little to uphold the positive vibes of the official tweet.
Just right off the bat, one could tell the players don’t care at all for the present state of Apex Legends. With words of @SrHayami, pretty harsh ones: “Those shitty servers don’t work, there’s horrible lag and it crashes even in the lobby, do something right and fix the game, and please ban the cheaters.” And many more piled in, expressly talking about crashes occurring during ranked, with @ItsMintToBe1 going so far as to say, “My game crashed six times in ranked today.” Ouch.
Then came a whole story about matchmaking being what it is. @MatthewLoveKing brought up the classic: “A 3 stack pred team in Plat.. this game has become a fucking Joke.” Then proceeded to say that Seer wall hacks meta came back, and that ranked feels as bad as pubs with all those streamers and three-stack teams. Meanwhile, @Scarknuckle_ gave some… interesting opinions about spawn locations, saying, “Stop dropping teams in the middle of the fucking map. It’s total garbage to start the game that way.”
@jolly_smoke, on a completely unrelated note, sounded like a Caustic main again, demanding, “Give caustic his passive back. It literally is the character. He should never take damage in gas.” And they are not wrong, either; the recent changes on how gas interacts with everything have been a very hot topic in the community.
Interspersed with all the loud complaints were positive reactions: @TonyHiimself uttered, “This is going to be super exciting to see!” while @Why_Envyyy elegantly expressed, “SOO EXCITED” in all caps. Karodeza himself replied with, “🥳❤️ SO EXCITED,” which is quite wholesome, honestly.
Then, other players had, for sure, much more… specific requests. @TheOncey asked, “Will September be the month where we get a brand new bald wraith skin?” Which honestly begs for the same. And @Allaan00 is on “day 4 asking for the release of the bat heirloom on the mythic shop.” That kind of dedication is real.
Then there’s @Rep_M8, who went classic once again, “What about footstep audio?” Because, let’s be real: The sound in Apex has been an issue since season zero, and players ain’t gonna let it continue any longer.
Still, the Creator Tournament Series is a brilliant idea even with all the negativity and very specific requests being thrown its way. Having well-known streamers featured competitively could inject new life into the Apex environment, mainly considering it has creators like Nirunno and Karodeza with a concrete following. If the first one goes well, hopefully, this tournament series would then have a permanent standing.
Now, the trippy thing is how the community above any good-willed supposed positive news is so… divided. On one side, players are excited about new content and tournaments. On the other are people bugged with constant issues in the game they feel need to be addressed prior to maybe introducing new features. Probably a Lockdown1f’s side best,”We don’t care, fix your fucking game.”
It pretty much puts a spotlight on how there’s this tension between developers trying to push content linearly to events while players and fans are dealing with technical issues, a never-ending discussion thread. It’s not uniquely Apex Legends – every single battle royale game has to find that balance – but the response to this particular announcement, in particular, have been downright vocal about the problems.
Nonetheless, the Creator Tournament Series could be worth a look if competitive Apex is your thing. Both Nirunno and Karodeza are known and respected for their gameplay, so just their streams later this month could be worth watching to see some top-tier action. May they distract players at least from interaction server issues and bad audio. Or maybe they’ll remind everyone that the game could be something if those issues were fixed. Who knows.
That alone would make for a pretty interesting September, much less this new tournament series and whatever else that Respawn is cooking. Here’s to an almost crash-free stream for the creators, especially on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox.
