Respawn Entertainment has officially announced a major update for Apex Legends, and the change of the Alternator is one of the main issues that the players have noticed. The official Apex account went as far as to post a tweet about how the gun’s new Double Tap upgrade in Ample mode has created situations that were previously considered “aww, cute” and now are caused by everyone’s sudden burst main. It is a fact that the community was totally different with their response.
Let’s explain this to the players who are not yet a part of the new season. The Alternator SMG has always been the weapon that punished the players less and was more forgiving to the newbies, Reliable and simple to shoot. But now it can be upgraded with the Double Tap? It almost turns the gun into a monster that fires in bursts and can kill in a matter of seconds. We mean that one minute you were just dealing little damage to a player and the next minute you were literally taking all his health before he had a chance to respond.
On the other hand, while Respawn is marketing this ultimately appealing new weapon upgrade, the actual player base is encountering numerous problems. Watching the replies to that tweet is like witnessing a slow-motion car crash from a distance. Among the disgruntled players is Echo_Pulsee who is complaining about ranked matchmaking and is losing his patience telling that they’ll take down a team, get third-partied, take down the second team, and then get third-partied AGAIN. “That should not be a f—ing thing every single f—ing game like get a f—ing grip”- and to be honest? It’s like we feel the same!
And that’s the problem; players have also pointed out the poor server performance alongside the matchmaking issues as problems they face. Many players are reporting that they are suffering from laggy servers, slow-motion movements, and basically unplayable conditions. Mr Quien is saying that they are “moving in slow motion through the map” while fadel_fps is screaming “FIX UR SERVERS HOLY F— BRO.” The complaints from the gamers about the problems they face is so loud that it can be considered a universal one.
Among the different facets of this whole discussion, the community of players has always been so split when it comes to the issue of Alternator change. Some of the players are welcoming it like BuerTheDreamer who stated “I’ve always loved that little smg” while others are skeptical about the adjustments made to the balance of the game. Aedamiano literally asked “Who thought one of the easiest SMGs needed this change?” along with a facepalm emoji. EvilKeiM remarked “That’s no longer an ‘Alternator’ tf?” and I personally found it quite funny.
The whole issue is that there is another, even bigger, controversy surrounding the current event. Fresh Printz mentioned that the event is somehow oddly set up this time and that “some people won’t even know there’s an event” which could in turn be a financial loss for Respawn. Besides, the return of the Iron Crown skin that players were told would never return is still a hot topic. ImMaldingRn straight up asked: “Um surely you haven’t forgotten that you explicitly said iron crown skins would NEVER return?”
Is there any news on the ranked changes? Jobro_69 declared them to be the “worst ranked changes in a year” while several players continued to complain that matchmaking in solo mode is still broken. OjibweTaino has said that they are “still getting the dumbest people in the lobby” while NolesCG described his experience of getting solo matches and missing teammates in their first three ranked games of the season.
But hold on, there’s a silver lining as well! trump80milbounty commended for promptly fixing an Olympus error and transitioning it to Broken Moon, that “Good job for the quick reaction.” Also, fer4less9 is enjoying a new superglide thing and begging Respawn not to take it away.
The audio problems that have been haunting Apex for ages? Not solved, according to Opeolu_waa who called out “You swore you were fixing audio!” while Fresh Printz did admit that the audio settings are properly saved now which is… change I guess?
A pretty surprising thing is that a single tweet about a weapon upgrade has turned into a big community feedback session that includes everything from server stability to matchmaking to event structure to balancing decisions. It’s almost like Respawn wanted to introduce this cool new feature but the players were like “Yeah that’s cool, but first can we discuss ALL these other issues?”
The gun upgrade is definitely a cool feature. Upgrading a steady-firing SMG into a burst beast might surely change the meta, especially in close-range fights. But with all these other problems the players are facing, it’s rather difficult to get too excited about the weapon changes when the gaming experience itself on PlayStation and Xbox remains problematic.
