With the Apex Legends Global Series set to kick off, the gaming community is scrambling over which teams to root for. The official Apex Legends esports Twitter made the tweet, and the responses were immediately filled with users’ favourite teams and hype. Instantly, the Apex competitive community blew up with excitement, much like the feeling of downing five energy drinks at once.

In case you’re out of the loop (again, no judgement), ALGS is the premier tournament series for Apex Legends. The event draws in the best teams globally, all competing for glory and the grand prize, which, mind you, is also pretty hefty. The tournaments usually run in several splits, with the final being the biggest. To give you perspective, the amount of talent is on a whole other level.

The rest of the World: “Mark the Date” _ALGS Esports_: It’s Happening. Who Got It??? The Replies: OMG! The Replies!! The Rest of the World: The replies are a mess filled with team loyalties, inside jokes, and pure unadulterated excitement. Let’s look at some of the vibes.

Alliance appears to be getting a lot of support. Shoutouts to “Alliance on top” and “Go @theAllianceGG” keep coming in, and one of their accounts even posted a clip of some insane movement tech with the caption, “My movement king ofc!” The official esports account responded to the video with, “I can tell he’s been practicing that movement tech,” which is some wholesome banter going on.

Naturally, Alliance isn’t alone in the spotlight. There’s a laundry list of top teams shouting their names in the replies — @TwisMinds (shoutout to Albralelie), @S8ulesports, @LGCYHQ with the #BELEGENDARY hashtag, @theAllianceGG for sure, @VeryKuaiGaming, and even some love for @14KResonance. Imagine a sports bar filled with Apex fans all shouting in unison while wearing different team jerseys.

The discussion has even sparked some regional talk. Someone asked about APAC South’s broadcasts, specifically calling out the region for producing the current LAN champions and wondering if we would get more of that level of action. Then someone else responded with what seems like good news about that? The conversation gets a little bit fractured but it’s clear the people are interested in all the regions as opposed to just the usual ones, which is nice.

Some of the most rudimentary hype thoughts are along the lines of “so hyped for this can’t wait” and “time to wake up,” which, honestly, same. The mood is contagious. Even teams such as cybercats esports are chiming in with, “WHERES THE CATS? ARE WE READY?” which, yes, same mood.

What’s interesting is how so many teams are being cheered on at the same time—not a couple dominant teams, but a bunch—and it’s interesting. People are shouting out for very different teams like Legacy Kingdom, Team Inferno, Falcons, VCGO, and many more. This is indicative of a really good competitive scene where a lot of teams have their own groups of fans.

Also, can I point out something: a person replied in Chinese? The tweet states, “卡神卡神 勇猛超神!”, which is commonly translated as “Card God Card God, brave and super god!”, a hype phrase that might be directed at a player. Chinese is my second language, and the phrase isn’t one I hear a lot, so the exact meaning escapes me, but the excitement is unmistakable.

There’s even some roster speculation going on with one user saying that he will root for whoever is smart enough to sign DKK (@Dropped @Knoqd @Keonttv @Jxmo_1). So even before the season starts, people are already thinking about team moves and signings. The grind never stops.

And BattlegroundsOCE also replied saying they will be the official broadcast home for APAC South Pro League Split 2. They are mentioning teams like VeryKuai Gaming, S8ul Esports, GenG, Rival Esports, and Wolves Esports. That’s big news for the visibility of that region.

What this all really shows is that the ALGS epics event is something that everyone is paying attention to. The players know the teams along with their stories. They have their favourite teams as well as rivals. They are concerned about which regions get broadcast coverage. It is a proper sports league, with proper sports league passion.

Since we just had some bigger tournaments, we know the meta is constantly changing. New legends, changes to the weapons, changes to the maps—all of these influence how teams play the game. So it will be interesting to watch which teams are able to adapt the best to whatever the state of Apex is.

Like many, I expect to watch competitive Apex at a high level again. Witnessing the combination of mechanical skill and clutch moments, and no other tournament delivering them is unlike ALGS once it starts. I can also say that, judging by the replies to this tweet, many people feel the same.

What is left to be asked is… for what dates, exactly, are we marking our calendars? The tweet didn’t give us dates, and not doing so is poking at us a little. Still, we know a return is happening. The waiting has begun, and until it ends, we have to argue about loyalties to teams.
