A New Battletoads Game Will Be Here In August, According To New Trailer

One of the most popular video game series back in the 90s was Battletoads. It was created to rival the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles featuring anthropomorphic toads instead of turtles. The series caught on like wildfire within the gaming community those many years ago, featuring beat’em up action that never grew tiresome.

The series was so successful — in fact — that it went on to have five successful installments and even an animated television pilot. Rare, the series’ developer, did great work with this series and has a lot to be proud of.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a new Battletoads game in quite some time. That’s unfortunate because there truly are so many passionate fans. There was some glimmer of hope when Microsoft teased the series return at last year’s E3.

There haven’t been any details since then, at least until now. A new trailer just surfaced that confirms a new Battletoads game and also provides us with an update regarding its release. On August 20th, Battletoads will be available on Steam, Microsoft Store, and also Xbox Game Pass.

That’s great news if you’ve been longing to get your hands on these iconic toads and the addicting beat’em up action. The game is being developed by Rare and Dlala Studios. The latest installment will have side-scrolling visuals and also feature co-op. Up to three players will be able to play as either Pimple, Zits, or Rash.

Each one of these super-toads has different play styles, giving you and friends plenty of opportunities to find a style that suits your preferences. The co-op support seems like a much-needed feature because if you can remember, these games were surprisingly difficult. You had to be quick and do just the right things to avoid defeat.

As far as the game’s visuals, Battletoads will have a hand-drawn style and be a little more cartoonish than previous installments. That sounds pretty great on paper and looks unique according to the trailer. That’s pretty much all of the details we have at the moment, but it’s good to have some light at the end of the tunnel for a beloved series.

These games were pivotal for the NES and SNES back in the day and it will be interesting to see how many fans of the original come out in droves for the latest installment. Hopefully it does well and we get more Battletoad games in the future. That would be amazing from a nostalgia standpoint.
