The ALGS (Apex Legends Global Series) begins this week and they’re doing something really nice—welcoming players back by randomly awarding Apex Coins. Actually, I wonder if these coin rewards might be the most publicized ones in the history of Apex Legends. To give a bit of perspective, these coins are the in-game currency that players can use to purchase almost any cosmetic item, and they’re highly prized by the community.

The ALGS Twitter account shared a quick summary of the rules. They’ll be choosing two random commenters on their new Instagram and TikTok pages who will win 11,500 Apex Coins each. To put this in perspective, the amount of coins they’re giving away in one go far exceeds the coins most players receive in an entire season. And if you repost the announcement, you’ll gain an additional entry for 2,500 more coins. This is crazy.

All you have to do is follow their TikTok and Instagram, comment your favorite ALGS player or team using #algsgiveaway, and hope for the best. The giveaway ends on September 1 at 12 PM PST, which means you virtually have all the time in the world. Still, there’s no reason to not enter now. Why not? It’s completely risk-free to enter, and you might as well do it sooner rather than later just in case these things do work on some form of early bird incentive. The world is still trying to figure it out how these giveaways work.

One can learn a lot about the competitive Apex scene just by looking at the comments. There’s so much noise from people screaming the names of their favorite teams, and it looks like Alliance is getting a ton of love because so many people are either just writing “Alliance” or tagging “@theAllianceGG” with heart emojis. If there’s one brand that’s the clear fan favorite this pro league split, it’s them.

You have the ImperialHal crowd as well, and I guess people must be tagging him left and right since this guy is basically the face of the competitive Apex scene. It deepens the fan sentiment when one says, “@ImperialHal is my favorite player and @theAllianceGG is my fav team,” which in my opinion is wonderful because you can support both.

There’s also a lot of “shout-out” coming from Team Falcons. It looks like the “green” team has a fanbase that is actively shouting for them. I even spotted some K-pop referencing Shopify Rebellion and some Koyful shoutouts. There was even some 100 Thieves love. What’s actually incredible is the diversity of teams people are rooting for. It makes esports feel a lot more global than some people assume.

Though, not everyone is happy about the giveaway. One guy joined in on a rant that started with, “Wow you will give away virtual coins for two individuals while being a multi-billion-dollar company.” Then he followed it up with a laughing emoji and, “dogshit company,” some people have a strange attitude towards, well, “free stuff.”

It’s always interesting to see who is being shouted out other than the teams themselves. I got to see YukaF shoutout from FNATIC, Hakis from Alliance, Mclovin from NIP—what really hits me is the shoutout this esport has developed with the personalities over the years.

It’s almost like the giveaway is a bit of a thank you to the community who supports the competitive Apex on the eve of Pro League’s return. Because it makes me think of the coordinated efforts to help increase the level of excitement for the competitive season. At any rate, the giveaway is cleverly timed because it’s simultaneously driving engagement to their new social media pages and announcing the return of ALGS.

In case you don’t follow the Apex competitors, ALGS stands for the Apex Legends Global Series. The ALGS is the primary tournament series for the game. It features the best teams from all over the world who compete for huge prize pools and the world champion title. The Pro League is the seasonal tournament that doubles as a qualifier for the LAN where teams earn points.

On top of that, the giveaway brings a whole lot of additional excitement. Now, players not only get to cheer for their favorite teams and players, but they also stand to win a lump sum of Apex Coins that will let them literally forever skip paying for battle passes. I believe it’s something like the equivalent of eight or nine, or even more, battle passes victory, which is huge although the exact math is a little unclear.

What’s great about this is that the giveaways are hosted on both Instagram and TikTok, understanding that different parts of the community use different platforms. The apex competitive scene has always been on point with “meeting players where they are,” and this surely is another example of “doing just that.”

Naturally, there are some standard rules that apply—no purchase necessary, must be 18+ to enter, and a few others. They have a full set of contest rules too, which is publicly viewable for the event (I doubt anyone actually reads them, but it’s nice to have).

It helps to look on the bright side, which is that as an Apex Deputy, it is wonderful to see the esports brand evolves and continues to discover new ways to connect with the Apex community. Although it appears to be a giveaway, I believe it helps in creating a buzz and keeping the competitive scene top of mind, especially since a new season is around the corner.

Everyone needs Apex Coins, and let me tell you that 11,500 coins can make an enormous difference in anyone’s pocket, whether it’s for a predefined goal like the new legendary skin or the next battle pass, or simply stockpiling crafting metals. Measuring up to a guaranteed gold-tier weapon drop every game for a week, it is the closest thing in Apex to a dinner with Lady Luck.

Below are some easy tips on registering for this contest that you need to know to increase your chances of winning. Simply open either Instagram or TikTok and search for @playapexesports. Now, on @playapexesports search page, type your favorite apex team or player, drop their name with the swing of the mandatory hashtag, and cross your fingers. I say this with confidence; your chances of winning more than 11,000 and a half coins in Apex are way better than any other basis you may have imagined. And while I appreciate the importance of luck; even if it isn’t on your side, you are still cheering for a game’s competitive team that helps make it fun to watch.

The return of the ALGS Pro League not only rekindles the giveaways but also the chatter from the Apex community. This honestly is peak experience.
