Fallout 76’s big Wastelanders update is almost upon us. It’s scheduled for an April 14 release after having been pushed back a week in response to the coronavirus. The pandemic hasn’t stopped Bethesda from burning the midnight oil to make sure this huge update kicks off smoothly.
To celebrate, an official launch trailer just came out. Right away, we see human characters at long last. The very presence of human NPCs should make Fallout 76 a much better experience. No longer will have you have scour the West Virginia wastelands searching for meaningful content. It will be abundant. Finally, this RPG will have a human element that has been missing since launch. It was a strange choice for Bethesda to remove NPCs from the game entirely, but they’re responding to their shortcomings with this latest update.
In the trailer, we see some new story elements that are being included. We see the settlement of Appalachia being overrun by bandits, settlers, and cultists. Bethesda really wanted players to have variety with the companions and enemies they could run into, which is great to see.
According to the main story, Appalachia has some sort of hidden treasure buried deep beneath and is now under attack by interested treasure-seekers. There are also shots of The Foundation. It looks like a friendly settlement that you’ll want to visit for some meaningful dialogue and trading.
The launch trailer even shows some of the new monsters, weapons, and missions you’ll be able to complete for varying rewards. What was once an action RPG devoid of personality now seems to be teaming with it.
Wastelanders may be just enough to get you to return or perhaps experience Fallout 76 for the first time. Bethesda has talked in depth about some of the struggles they’ve dealt with leading up to launch, but it’s clear they’re intent of giving their loyal fans a better game.
The Wastelanders update is showing a lot of promise heading into its official release. Whether you’re looking to go on some epic missions, enjoy some in-depth character dialogue, or just mess around with the new weapons, this update should give you hours of worthy content to enjoy.
Hopefully, it launches smoothly and is free of major bugs. Fallout fans deserve an amazing RPG, especially during these darker days with the coronavirus pandemic affecting so many aspects of society. We’ll soon find out here in a couple of days.
