When Infinity Ward launched season two of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare last month, their classified section in the menu was changed to say “transmission incoming,” thus leading many to believe that the developers were teasing the long-rumored Battle Royale mode. Since then, there have been a ton of leaks regarding the all but confirmed BR mode, which will reportedly be called Warzone, the latest of which shows off some of the mode’s in-game animations.
On Friday, YouTuber IceManIsaac uploaded a video that shows off some of the execution animations from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Warzone Battle Royale. Like with other BR games, in Warzone, a downed player will get a chance to be revived by a teammate if they’re part of a squad, but they’re also susceptible to some of the game’s brutal executions, which can be seen in the video below.
Each operator in Call of Duty: Warzone will have a unique set of executions, some of which will likely be made available via the game’s Battle Pass.
According to several sources, including renowned Call of Duty YouTuber The Gaming Revolution, Infinity Ward and Activision will finally reveal the Warzone Battle Royale this Tuesday, March 3, with the application launching one week later on Tuesday, March 10. So, expect to see the official details of the mode very soon.
Like with Fortnite and Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone will be free to play, meaning that you don’t have to own Modern Warfare to play the upcoming Battle Royale expansion. But, like with the two aforementioned BR titles, there will be a Battle Pass tied to the application, but again, purchasing it won’t be mandatory, as everything in the Battle Pass can be unlocked by simply playing the game.
In recent weeks, Activision has been hitting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare YouTubers with copyright strikes for leaking information regarding the rumored Warzone Battle Royale, which essentially confirms that the leakers are providing accurate information. Of course, the developers could get out ahead of the leakers by just confirming that it’s in development, but for whatever reason, they’ve opted to not reveal it.
Call of Duty: Warzone will reportedly double the traditional Battle Royale player count, as it’ll be capable of hosting up to 200 players per match. Being that Modern Warfare launched with the capability of hosting up to 100 players per match via its Ground War mode, it seems likely that they’ll double that count for the long-rumored Battle Royale expansion.
