Bethesda has recently released an update for DOOM and DOOM II that includes a lengthy list of changes. The update is for every platform.
The detailed list of patch notes was posted on Bethesda’s website.
The patch highlights include a variety of upgrades for those who have stayed faithful to the original games.
First on the list of updates is Add-on Support. Add-ons are now available for download from the Main Menu. Bethesda says they will continuously add more new and original Add-on content from the original game. The first list has been generated, and Bethesda is looking for input from the community on what to add next.
Gameplay has become smoother thanks to 60 FPS support. The original release was 35 FPS, but now players on all platforms will have a smoother experience.
The games now have a Quick Save and Load option: “Pause the game, and press R/R1/RB to immediately save where you are, and unpause the game. Load your quick save by pausing the game and then pressing L/L1/LB.”
Weapons are a major part of the game and have some significant updates. There’s now a Weapon Carousel to make finding that ideal weapon much easier. Players no longer have to cycle through all of their weapons to find the one they want. The Directional Pad has also been upgraded to swap between weapons quickly. Players can Quick Weapon Select by pressing the following buttons: Up: Shotgun and Super Shotgun, Right: Chaingun, Down: Rocket Launcher, and Left: Plasma Gun.
The display has also had some changes. The aspect ratio can now be changed to the original 4:3 version from the original game. There’s also an added option to increase overall brightness and level brightness.
For those playing multiplayer, the split-screen HUD has been changed to be less distracting. The bottom status bar is now smaller.
For players who want to get to their favorite levels quickly, there’s now a Level Select option. Gamers can choose their favorite episode, map, and difficulty setting and play without having to complete previous levels.
One significant issue was made known, and Bethesda is working on it. For players who own DOOM or DOOM II on iOS, but don’t have an iOS13 compatible device cannot play Update 3. They can still play the previous version from the App Store.
The re-release of DOOM and DOOM II are available now on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch plus iOS and Android devices.
