One of the ways Pokemon Go has continued to remain relevant in the four years since its release has been through community events.
Throughout the year the developers of this mobile sensation hold events that offer rare or unusual Pokemon along with a slew of special bonuses.
As we kick off 2020, Pokemon Go will be holding a special Hachathon event, which is going to be focused primarily on Pokemon eggs. Throughout Pokemon Go, you can acquire eggs which can be placed in an incubator and hatched, giving you all new Pokemon to add to your ever-expanding roster.
Hatchathon starts on January 2, and players will be able to earn special bonuses such as additional Stardust, rare candies, and items like the Unova Stone when they’ve walked a certain distance. The Unova Stone is needed to evolve a number of fifth generation Pokemon and can be very hard to come by.
When it comes to Stardust and Candy, it has been reported that players will be able to earn twice the original amount every time they hatch an egg. There’s also a chance that players will be able to hatch party hat wearing versions of Wurmple and Pichu from certain 2 KM egg.
Throughout the event, the party hat version of Pichu will randomly spawn in the wild. Two star raids will also feature party hat versions of Wobbuffet and Raticate.
The Hatchathon event will run from January 2 up through January 16 at 4 p.m. EST.
There will also be a Team Rocket Special Research questline, in which players can find and catch a Shadow version of Moltres. That’s sure to hold a special place in anyone’s collection.
The legendary Pokemon Virizion is also still available, but will be leaving five star raids as of January 7. Once Virizion is gone, the Gen-4 Legendary Pokemon Heatran will once more be available in raids up through February 4. Adding the Heatran’s appeal is a special Shiny form version of it that will be available to catch.
Pokemon Go is a groundbreaking mobile game that is free to play but features some optional in game purchases. Players are able to find, interact with, and capture Pokemon in the real world through an augmented reality camera feature.
The game was released in 2016, and in that time has seen over 800 million downloads worldwide. Upon release, the game broke the Guinness World Record for highest grossing mobile game in its first month with $207 million. It also broke the record for most downloaded mobile game in its first month with 130 million downloads.
