Geoff Keighley through Twitter proclaimed a specific Resident Evil Showcase on Tuesday which was nothing but a proper fun fact for the Game Requiem as each and every detail would be new and exclusive. This was the event that would do a lot of hard work promoting an iconic game through its marketing campaign.
Thus, the reality of the hype for Resident Evil Requiem is now and who else but Geoff Keighley to get the ball rolling? He shared on Twitter an invitation to the event which says that there will be “exclusive new details” and told to “tune in at 5 PM ET.” Everything is sounding so good but what else is there to reveal? People are replying with this very question and I would say it is kind of a mood. User @Paul_D321, for example, went right to the point with his query: “What is the point in showing more? They already showed the characters, the locations, the villain, the gameplay. Showing more will only spoil the fun for everyone.” And he is not wrong, is he?? We have already seen a demo, several trailers, a worn-out Leon and even a hint of an open-world city. The game is going to be released in, what, a month? Sooner or later it will be like we have read the whole story before hitting the start button.
However, there is the other side, the super hyped group. @JacobNeves21192 is just “so excited omg yay,” and @DomTheBomb is all “We will be watching!” with a gif. Classic. Besides, some players are willing to go the extra mile and demand specific treats. @Denrirr is hoping for a Collector’s Edition reveal for RE9 (bold move thinking that far ahead) and a sneak peek for the next remake. @Trial_by_Fir3 and many others guess, maybe they are even hoping, for a demo drop. The message from @Webs116 was pretty straightforward: “Se viene Demo,” which means “The demo is coming,” so the anticipation is quite real.
But, the real chaos in the replies is not about spoilers or demos. It is about VR. Or rather, the lack of it. This discussion is by far the loudest and most consistent one on social media. Players who have tried Resident Evil Village and the RE4 remake in PSVR2 are… maybe not “devastated” but certainly feeling bad about it. @hibbins tweeted that “No VR is horrible to accept, please add VR… or I simply can’t play it.” That’s a very strong statement! @LeeGTOV6 was of the same opinion, claiming that they will “struggle to play any other way” after the VR versions. And @wednesdavewells made a whole proposal to Capcom, saying “We’ll pay for it, we’ll help promote it, make it happen. You know its ULTIMATE way to play.”
It’s a totally legit demand from the community. But then @matteo311 replied to hibbins with a cold, corporate reality dosage, calling VR for RE8 and the RE4 remake a “non/minimally profitable afterthought.” Ouch. That may be the business truth but it sure does not make the pill any easier to swallow for the VR faithful. They consider it the ultimate experience and going back to a flat screen for Requiem feels like a regression. It’s really a fascinating clash of player passion and practical development.
And then, just to sprinkle some extra chaos in, there is the whole console war side-debate. @Gamer_Velma was out here asking if the game would come to PS4, and let me tell you, the replies were not kind. @reeceholmes14 and @BbNone21 were basically rejecting the idea by saying, “Absolutely not, it holds the game back; it needs to be the best it can be.” Velma countered that many users still have PS4s and cannot afford a PS5, hoping to save for a PS6 someday. Which, fair point about accessibility, but the general consensus is that major new games have to move on from the old hardware. It’s that awkward transition phase that always leaves some players feeling left behind.
So what do we have? A showcase that some think is redundant, others are counting down the seconds for. A player community split between those wanting to go in fresh and those wanting every scrap of info. And a vocal, passionate segment of the community making a heartfelt plea for a VR mode that Capcom may see as a financial non-starter. It’s messy, it’s human, and it’s 100% the Resident Evil fandom in a nutshell. They care a lot.
The upcoming Resident Evil Showcase is undoubtedly a key moment for Capcom to regulate the expectations of the highly anticipated Resident Evil Requiem.
