Insomniac Games used social media to express their New Year wishes and make a statement that 2026 is going to be a “BIG year” for them in terms of releasing their Marvel’s Wolverine game for PlayStation 5. This post has set the players’ buzz and guessing games rolling. The post has triggered an upsurge of players’ excitement and speculation, with a mixture of demands for new trailers and a release date, while some are worried over the prospective direction of the game. The response is a clear indication of the very high expectation and the pressure that is lying on one of the most anticipated superhero games.
Thus, Insomniac did not succinctly say that “New year’s hype bomb just got exploded”? Just a “Happy New Year!” post with fireworks, a promise that 2026 will be a huge year for them and that’s all. Moreover, they even wrote “SLICE” which is, let’s be honest, a very obvious reference to Wolverine’s claws. No new footage, no date, just vibes. But, oh man, the comments… the comments are a mood in themselves.
It seems that someone opened the floodgates and the entire gaming community got out with all their suppressed Wolverine feelings in one comment section. There appear the very hyped users among them, such as ‘XMenThefanBoy’ who is just shouting and fire emojis, “Can’t Wait!!!! 😮💨🙌🏾🔥.” Then, there is ‘Jakestone24’ who hits me right in the nostalgia saying that they wished a game like this would be made since they were a child. That’s the good stuff, pure hype that makes you reminisce why we love being excited.
However… you scroll down a little and the other side of the coin is loud indeed. There is a real current of, let’s say, concern running through the comments. Or maybe skepticism is a better word. A lot of replies are simply demanding things. ‘penischopper123’ practically begs, “We need new trailer PLEASE.” ‘erkaina’ gets right to the point with, “And the release date?” And ‘omerfaruktr9’ is even thinking about people with disabilities and asking for Turkish subtitles which is a fairly reasonable request.
Then things get a bit spicy. Some comments clearly follow the lead of other games. ‘JizaLoop’ is throwing shade and predicting “This gonna be SM2 level of mid,” referring to Spider-Man 2. Ouch! ‘casey_Payne23′ wishes “the story here won’t be butchered like SPIDER-MAN 2.” It is clear that the players’ views on the last Insomniac release are divided, and the disappointment of some is now affecting their view of Wolverine.
There’s also the whole… political aspect. A user called ‘KnowitallMMA’ simply writes “This is gonna be woke AF” with no further justification. And another one, ‘GRIMMYRAX,’ refers to the consulting firm Sweet Baby Inc. by saying “I hope you guys ditched Sweet Baby Inc.” This point has been echoing in certain gaming circles for quite some time and it has obviously followed the hype train right up to Wolverine’s doorstep. It is quite astonishing how a mere holiday post can turn into a lightning rod for such wider, culture war discussions in gaming. Like, can we just get a nice claw-slicey game, please?
There is even a bit of console war sneaking in, with ‘JapanHatesXbox‘ simply stating “Xbox is dead” on a post by a PlayStation studio. Why, man? Just why.
However, among all this chaos, there are still some amusing speculations. ‘vaughnXvon’ is already into marketing cycles, asking “April state of play?” That’s not such a bad guess. ‘TraffyMorant’ just safely states “Fall 2026” with a gif. And ‘marktonna1’ is talking about gameplay possibilities and is curious if other mutants will be playable. That’s the kind of hype I can support – speculating what the game could actually be.
It’s a little bit funny and at the same time a little bit exhausting, you know? A company tries to spread some cheerful vibes and gets hit with the whole spectrum of gamer emotions – love, impatience, criticism, and random quarrels from different platforms. This is a sign of the colossal weight that the name Wolverine bears. Insomniac Games set a ridiculously high standard with Spider-Man, and now everyone expects them to do it again but this time with more berserker rage and less time. And they are watching everything.
