Summer Game Fest has formally proclaimed the date for its live showcase in 2026. The event of Geoff Keighley will take place on Friday, the 5th of June 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. While the announcement made years in advance is indeed a very early announcement, it does signal the very big planning for the biggest iteration of the festival, which is accompanied by more details expected this spring.

Wow, the real year has just started now. Already, we have the dates for 2026 and that is crazy. Hats off to the organizers for being that much ahead of time. But then again, this is the way of Geoff Keighley – always ahead, always building the hype early. The tweet from the Summer Game Fest accounts told it in plain terms: “See you on Friday, June 5, 2026, for the biggest @SummerGameFest yet, live from @DolbyTheatre in Los Angeles.” Of course, players went mad with their comments. What a vibe!

The gamers’ reactions are pretty much the same as their minds. Their highs, lows, doubts, and very specific requests are all part of it. One gamer, HoodMik1, called it “a present from the 3 wise men for us Hispanic gamers,” which is a clever and lovely way of seeing such an early announcement. Meanwhile, others like ChaoticAigis420 are just saying “The year just started vro” and it is indeed the mood. We have not even finished 2025 yet, and there is already a reminder for 2026? I can barely keep up with that.

Then wish lists start popping up. Oh my God, the wish lists. Mike Den Haan is here asking for “Hogwarts Legacy 2 or the new fromsoft multi-console game, please.” A pretty specific and strong request. LuigiMario6700 insists, “Witcher 4 better be there or something.” And Dredlmaoartist is just shouting into the void with a Devil May Cry meme, posting “ALWAYS BET ON DEVIL MAY CRY” along with a hype video. The energy is chaotic and I love it.

Not all reactions, however, are praiseful. Even while they are predicting the festival’s grandest show, there is at least a very faint hint of managed expectations. A user, IvoPintoGood, simply remarked, “Biggest yet… so more gatcha slop and musical performances.” Ouch. That’s pretty harsh. In another comment, the realrndmguy sarcastically declared his happiness, “Yesss more Anime Gacha RPG Game Trailers that is exactly what we need 🫠” with the melting face emoji, which clearly expresses sarcastic despair and is the mood now. Heisenmink is equally blunt: “Don’t hype it up, unless it deserves the hype.” Good advice, really.

And the memes. The memes are the best part. One user, PAINKILLIR, pointed out that the date is “No meu aniversário” in Portuguese meaning “on my birthday.” So happy birthday to them, I guess! Another user, ahigmel, stated the same thing: “Porra no dia do meu aniversário” which translates to “Damn, it’s my birthday.” Two lucky ones possibly getting a Silksong announcement as a birthday gift? Maybe? User remade_being said it is the last day of their finals, dubbing it “Wild. But hey it gives me something to work hard for 😭” which is amazing – using game announcements as a reason to study harder.

There’s also this classic gamer move where you just tag the infallible deal bot. James_179 wrote, “We will be tuning in to Wario64’s thread,” which is probably the most real thing stated. Why bother with the official stream when you’ve got Wario64’s rapid-fire update threads, right? And then one person asked the AI Grok to convert the time zone in Melbourne, Australia corresponding to the event. Grok really replied, saying it would be 7 AM AEST on June 6. So even the bots are on the planning side.

Some responses are pure art, for example. StarNinjaItachi shared a drawing of a spooky, unfinished-looking game character along with the caption “I’m waiting for the announcement of this game.” What is this? I have some questions. And Clementolatum made a timely remark, “They’re gonna have to block the term ‘Focus M’ on the twitch chat 😭” referring to the infamous and mysterious game that keeps on being teased. The chat is definitely not going to be readable, as usual.

What was I talking about? Oh, right—the actual event. It’s going to be at the Dolby Theatre. That is where the Oscars are held. It’s a huge thing. They are expecting a massive turnout and players are already buzzing.
