HoYoverse has made the announcement of a new web event for Genshin Impact called ‘Memories of the Moon’ and as a result has made the Moon Maiden character prominent again along with the new event that is the pre-registration campaign for the next version of the game—players participating in it can win 160 Primogems at most as a reward. Even though it is a fantastic promotional event bringing a lot of players to the event, it has been, unfortunately, accompanied by some technical issues that the community has reported.

If you are a Genshin Impact player and if you keep your social media updated, it is most probably that you have seen the official announcement from the company about this ‘Memories of the Moon’ web event appearing on their Twitter account. In brief, HoYoverse is telling us “Hey Traveler, let’s revisit those sweetest memories with the Moon Maiden!” And, of course, they are giving the best incentive—free Primogems. The maximum number of them that can be obtained is 160 just for viewing the pictures and registering for the next update. It is not a bad deal at all for a few minutes of your time, is it?

Still, there is an issue—and it is a funny one in the classic Genshin community way—the event had a few hiccups. The tweet was all posh and welcoming, but going through the replies created a totally different picture. Gamers that were eventually cut out of the event by the technical problems were so furious that they even declared their profound love for the Moon Maiden! I mean, there were props of love, heart emoji walls, and the whole shebang. User ‘Türk Loreci’ just inundated the tweet with about fifty heart icons and said “I AM GOING TO DIE FOR THAT ELEGANT BLIND WOMAN” which is… quite a lot, but still it is love.

Meanwhile, they had to deal with the harsh reality of trying to get involved in the event. Players began to vociferously complain about the issues they were experiencing almost at once. User ‘Slunggosb’ simply stated “it isn’t working for me…” adding a sad emoticon. Nevertheless, there were also others, like ‘Michael Bisoglio,’ who were more specific: “1 out of 100 clicks works, the others give error code 429 -.-‘”. Error 429 means “Too Many Requests,” which is just the website’s way of saying “Whoa, slow down, you guys! We have a crowd similar to the one at the entrance of a concert!” It is like a crash of the digital equivalent of a store’s merchandise booth at a concert.

What did gamers do? They did what they always do—they began to troubleshoot in the replies. This turned into a mini tech support forum right beneath the promotional tweet. One player, ‘Mathster,’ suggested the straightforward but possibly effective approach: “just spam click, if it doesn’t work close then reopen then spam click again.” Another, ‘iSTAY4felix,’ managed to find a workaround: “going through the web browser and not app fixed the issue for me guys.” Someone else, ‘queencuntessa,’ was able to solve it by signing into the mobile game and then returning to the web event. It’s this strangely heart-warming chaos where everyone is trying to help each other out in getting their digital currency.

Besides the technical drama, the actual content has players supercharged. The event apparently centers around several characters connected to the moon theme. That ‘Türk Loreci’ user was not just praising one character – they were shouting out separate comments like “COLUMBİNA best girl,” “DAMSELETTE best girl,” “KUUTAR best girl,” and “HYPOSELENIA best girl.” It is a whole moon-themed best girl competition in the comments! And ‘tkm_chongyun’ posted an adorable event picture showing Columbina delightedly holding a Chongyun plushie, which is so cute.

This is classic Genshin Impact community engagement. HoYoverse releases a pretty, lore-teasing web event with a tangible reward (the Primogems are no joke, they are the life force of wishing for new characters), and the players react with an overwhelming wave of enthusiasm and… occasional frustration when the servers give in. But even the frustration is somehow a proof of how many people are willing to take part. They’re not angry, they are just urgently trying to give the game their attention and gather their prizes.

The ‘Memories of the Moon’ event emphasizes the continuous cycle of hype and reward that keeps players involved in Genshin Impact. Free currency is certainly a strong motivator, but at the same time, the event succeeds in raising speculation and excitement about new characters and storylines. The small technical glitches usually do not lower the overall engagement, as players on platforms like PlayStation and Xbox can attest to similar experiences in live-service games.
