Bungie during the weekend launched new universal armor ornaments for Destiny 2 and the reaction from the community was really positive—it’s an atmosphere all the way. The Polar Wolf set, which is available for Silver or Bright Dust during The Dawning event, is the ultimate fashion choice. The tweet by the @DestinyTheGame account, that, in a very humorous way, put it just right: “The pros of the Polar Wolf Universal Armor Ornaments: Look like a cool wolf, glow like the aurora borealis, and always get the Best Dressed commendation. Cons: None.” It seems like a very convincing sales pitch to say the least. It’s an Awoooooooo all the way.

To be more precise, the situation in Destiny is that with every new release the community displays the full scale of their feelings. A large number of players had their say. It is simply the case where the coming of the new shiny thing is accompanied by a phenomenal fusion of pure fashion hype and the always simmering pot of gaming problems that would erupt every now and then when Bungie dropped something shiny.

Let’s see if we can dissect it. The new armor piece? It looks like a major part of the Player’s (the supporting Guardian) wardrobe. By the way, a player who goes by the name ‘DanTheNoob’ mentioned that it is “shaders so well on titan,” which in the world of Destiny fashion where shader application can be a total crapshoot is indeed a very high praise. Others also joined the fun e.g. ‘HiredGunSG’ who compared the relic hunting to Pokemon hunt saying: “Gotta catch’em all.” It seems that the appeal of looking like a mystical, glowing wolf is indeed widespread. ‘Jdog_TheFenrir’ even came up with a perfect companion piece suggestion: “A wolf howling at the moon emote would be awesome 😭”. So, Bungie, you can take note of that.

On the other hand… the other side of the coin. Or rather the other wolf inside you as ‘FlaminSarge’ very humorously put it in a reply. Because for every guardian who was howling at the fashion moon, there was one who was howling about… everything else. The tweet became a meeting point for all kinds of complaints. ‘ayo_zak90’ bluntly told: “Don’t care about the wolf, fix the trials matchmaking 🤦‍♂️”. ‘Vex_D1’ sent the screenshot complaining about the “bots” in competitive matchmaking for the “FIFTH time,” which led to a little discussion with ‘TheSaltyKing47’ over whether it is better to just make your own team instead of, you know, tweeting.

It’s the typical Destiny player cycle. New thing comes, excitement grows, pain point is remembered, frustration occurs. ‘myYouTubetrash’ declared the “fire expansion” but then launched into a detailed rant about the “double RNG” for exotic contracts that posed if they were to run “6,746 games” for a chance of a drop. ‘xTemperedOnex’ asked why it was necessary to get the “Master” Derealize Conquest finished during the stream when the challenge is not that hard anyway, throwing in a jab at the upcoming release of Marathon. And ‘Tim’ just went for the straightforward approach: “This game is so dead. Furries are taking over.” Ouch, dude.

Even in the fashion conversation, the community spotted some shortcomings thus contradicting Bungie’s flawless listing. ‘Spyronius45’ wanted the Hunter helmet to keep its wolf ears when the cloak was removed. ‘zaffy2005’ resurfaced the perennial kind of request for toggle options to turn off glows and hoods. ‘Lucifer_Doggo’ came up with an entire list: shaders do not influence the glows, there is no option to disable the aura, and all three classes receiving the same outfit is making it feel “dull.” ‘R4YN3R_00’ was wondering if Titans could get a version without the back fur. So yes, there were probably NOT zero cons, however, the strength behind the criticism is a reflection of how badly people want it to be perfect.

One of the most hilarious threads could be the one with content creator ‘LowmanLegend’. ‘Luckstruck9’ tagged him “obligatory” and Lowman himself replied “So fing tough” about the armor while ‘MacticsG1’ jokingly suggested “yall give @LowmanLegend the keys to the account for the day?” It is an inside joke among the community that shows how close and intimate the Destiny player base is.

So what’s the verdict? The Polar Wolf armor is another great creation for Destiny 2’s fashion market which is a part of the experience that Bungie has always managed. The gaming community on PlayStation and Xbox continues to engage passionately with every update.
