Epic Games has finally added new skin for Fortnite that can be compared to adding espresso to hot chocolate. The Fortnite official account posted a teaser on Twitter saying, ‘you will not believe me if I say our hot chocolate will be more tasty with the addition of espresso, brb 😉 ‘ along with a video of pop star Sabrina Carpenter shown in slow motion enjoying a good time by the Winterfest fire. Sabrina Carpenter is that one. She is the newest active star to receive the skin treatment from Fortnite and players are, to say the least, going through a rollercoaster of emotions. While there are some players who are really excited about the new skin, others are confused, and a few have taken the opportunity to express their minor complaints about Fortnite as a whole. This is social media, particularly Twitter, at its finest.

As per the announcement, Epic Games is collaborating with Sabrina Carpenter and will most probably bring her character into the game through the Winterfest holiday event. The initial impression is that of a warm and cozy winter café, but it’s the pop star version. Such collaborations are always very supportive of the game’s ever-expanding character universe. But right from the time the tweet was put up, its comment section was buzzing with excitement, confusion, and whims.

There are a few players right off the bat who have come forward and said how they really feel. There is nothing but pure excitement over the new skin from them. One user who goes by the handle of (@Kisusik_akaKuku) has covered the post with heart emojis and left a comment saying “so cool ♥️♥️♥️ love the skin” and at the same time has suggested that the new skin be altered to resemble one of the past holiday skins. Another user, Sam Bailey (@Dereth7), simply responded to a leak account with “I’d love it 💪.” So it is pretty clear that there is a part of the player base that is more than ready to splurge on V-Bucks for this one. It fits seamlessly into Fortnite’s strategy of luring fans from the music and other pop culture sectors.

But the other side of the coin is also very much present. Not everyone seems to be super pumped about this news. A user named Maxs (@mxsea05) made an extremely strong statement: “You love adding problematic or not universally loved people recently don’t you? She’s NOT getting my money.” Ouch. That comment is pretty confrontational. Another player, SPEEZIƎ (@speeziespeezie), was optimistic about getting a whole squad of the character but then got disappointed: “oh wow it’s gonna be great having a whole squad of sabrinas togethe—oh wait I can’t, nobody wants to play because of the new SBMM.” And just like that, the topic changed from the new skin to the grievances about Skill-Based Matchmaking. That is the way it is on Fortnite Twitter—one moment you are discussing skins and the next you are deeply entrenched in the competitive aspect of the game.

Next, we’ll look at the responses that could be described as ‘creative’. One user with the handle GamesCage_ (reportedly a well-known hype/leak account) tweeted the post with a very strange animated GIF. Chaos ensued in the form of a sub-thread responding to that tweet. Replies ranged from “Bro what the hell is this gif lol” from Austin AKA Striker (@GameStrikerX2) to “Deranged individual” from Bondforged Keon (@NanoKeey). Another user, Prismeth (@WH00ZAH), just summed the whole situation up with “fadel wtf is this shi bruh 💀😭”. What started as a discussion about Sabrina turned out to be about the weird, great, and occasionally creepy world of gaming meme accounts instead.

Oh, what was the subject again? Uh, the skin. Besides the immediate reaction, the tweet became a magnet for all sorts of requests and complaints in the Fortnite community. Players seem to think that an official tweet is a customer service offer. LIL$ILCHAIN (@LILSILCHAIN) immediately requested an “Ella purnell skin pls.” Kevin (@Kevin_2347) mentioned bringing back Miku’s Festival Pass items, and he was still waiting for it. Sounds like begging, doesn’t it? One user, known as sucralose (@pek0e), simply branded the disappearance of the Astrea skin as a crime and began calling it a “crime” that it was only available for one month. User ali azizon (@its_azizson), however, has started a campaign titled #we_want_hazbin_hotel_in_fortnite. This certainly indicates that the grind is very real.

As always, the conversation about Fortnite is not complete without some standard game feedback. Catmagic (@Catmagic_1976) said: “What are you doing? The Battle Royale mode needs more attention.” Meanwhile, others chimed in with wishes for better integration with their PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
