The teaser video uploaded by Square Enix has indeed sparked a variety of discussions all around, although not entirely in the way the company might have liked. The official account of the game publishing company raised the question of which one game title from Square Enix’s Epicanco Co-Director Ayako Yokoyama could not possibly exist without. They then provided a link to a complete video on their YouTube channel called “The Games That Made Us.” A developer giving away her favorite titles does sound nice, but the responses still… Oh my God! The responses are totally different, it’s like the frustrations of gamers just poured in when one opened the gate.
For Google and anyone else interested let’s get the fact straight: A new episode of Square Enix’s developer interview series ‘The Games That Made Us’ featuring Ayako Yokoyama, the co-director of the latest Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles release is now up. In the short video, she mentions the Square Enix title that, according to her, is essential. The teaser that went along with the tweet set off speculations instantly and also caused a flood of comments from the community which, in the end, proved that the gamers were really interested in more tactical RPGs, remakes of classic titles, and broader language support in Square Enix games.
The part that was boring but SEO-friendly is finished, now it’s time to reveal the true story. I find the post to be promotional and ok, but at the same time, if you look at the comments it turns into a minefield of hot takes, demands, and despair. It’s unbelievable how just a simple question could lead to so much.
What we usually have are the guessers, like Ushbag just bluntly saying ‘Final Fantasy VI’ without even giving a reason. And Glitchy 🪄 is going deeper with ‘Vagrant Story’, pointing out Yokoyama-san’s contribution to the game’s mythology creation. That’s amusing—people are uniting and exchanging ideas based on the post. But immediately after that, it just… spirals down.
The major part of the replies seems to the un-video comments. They should contain the demands and complaints that are addressed to the Square Enix HQ. It looks as if the gamers got the notification and thought, ‘FINALLY, it is our turn to tell them off.’ Komond and AugusttoHG △ ○ ✕ ▢ are begging for more languages, with Augustto highlighting Portuguese subtitles specifically. AleksSkywalker supports the idea with ‘Now was the time to bring it in Spanish.’ The localization community is making its presence known loud and clear.
Next up are the ever loyal fans of tactical RPG, those who await nothing else but Ivalice. Falcon505 is really pushing for a New Game Plus mode to be added for Final Fantasy Tactics Ivalice Chronicles, hinting at it being either a patch or DLC. Rodolfo Azevedo holds up a dreamy wish, to be through with Xenogears and Parasite Eve getting a complete FFVII Remake-style treatment along with turn-based combat. He adds Tactics is still the best strategy RPG ever, which indeed is a fair point.
And there is everything else, it is really getting hotter. Melon & Ham completely distort it like a nuclear take: “Even your developers say that they ‘could not live without’ your SquareSoft titles and yet you force them to produce slop, are you masochistic?” OOF. That one stinks. They are asking nothing short of complete titles in the fashion of Final Fantasy Tactics, not just ports or remasters. It keeps coming back—players’ feeling that the old Squaresoft’s spirit is gone, replaced by something… different.
There is also just the angst in its purest and most unrestrained form. zackangel spares no words: “Mediocre games, no news on major projects. Really, get your act together.” Fairytaleinf uses the mercilessly effective just “Do something, your brand is dying.” Adrivvn wants to know how it could be that The Game Awards had nothing on them. Matteo Verello is shouting about the Kingdom Hearts IV marketing. It’s like a whole big group singing ‘What are you guys even DOING, Square Enix?’
A small mini-thread emerges between ZidaneSG1 and Franᶻ 𝗓 𐰁 in which they are debating whether another studio’s game (Sandfall’s Expedition 33) really has an actual connection to Sakaguchi or if it is just marketing talking to win over the doubtful FF fans. It becomes rather meta. People are discussing the corporate sincerity of the replies to a promotional tweet. That’s the point we have reached. Brayden and Bino and Tomo are even speculating about Square’s 2026 lineup for PlayStation and Xbox.
