Bungie has released a massive teaser for the upcoming expansion of Destiny 2, Renegades, and it is already stirring up a lot of reactions just two days before its release. The Destiny 2 official account posted a spooky message with the launch date announcement saying ‘My hands are your hands’ which has resulted in a lot of players sharing their thoughts in very different moods, some are ecstatic, others angry about the prior issues and quite a few just confused about lightsabers?? Let’s see what’s going on.

The huge phrase ‘My hands are your hands’ can definitely be linked to the new character Dredgen Bael, who they are going to reveal. As per the comments, people are calling him frightening and mysterious, one user @KC_4191 stated that ‘Bael is nothing but darkness. Hear his voice he sounds like a fellow who is going to murder someone that is very close to us.’ That sounds like a very strong statement. This quite suffocatingly dark atmosphere around the upcoming expansion resembles going deeper into the rich saga of the Dredgens, which seems to be one of the most liked aspects by the players. @Revenant2169 was very ecstatic to say ‘I fuckng love dredgen lore less go’ thereby confirming that lore lovers are absolutely getting their kicks through this one.

On the other hand, not everybody is voicing the same praise as the others in this case. The community is quite equally divided at to what is actually happening and what should the reaction be. A few players are still very unhappy with the previous expansion, Edge of Fate. @Ghost_2799 posted ‘Unfortunately DOA. Edge of Fate, indeed, was the last straw for many players, the devs were so disrespectful towards the community and completely engaged in turning them off with their content as a way of forcing player engagement.’ Disrespectful indeed. That’s a very strong opinion. At the same time, some other users came to support the game through their replies with @TheSaltyKing47 taking the role of a defender saying to the haters ‘Must be fun crying about a video game that you’ll clearly never quit.’ There’s some major disputes going on in those replies, seriously. It feels almost like a mini-civil war among the Destiny players.

Then, there is this weird chatter about player numbers and the game dying? @Shadow_Shazz_SG remarked ‘the overall problem is that if too many players quit, they will probably just pull the plug on the game, therefore, we really need as many people as possible during these tough times.’ That might be a bit over the top, yet @TheTakenKnife retorted with ‘no matter how many people leave D2 and do not return, personally, I still find it fun to play D2 even if it is in a dire state.’ Hence, you have both the doomsters and the steadfast ones fighting it out, just as is the case with any live-service game these days.

To get to the most comical part of the whole tweet thread: It is the promotional art that has people thinking of nothing less than a classic Star Wars lightsaber. @SaySykesRN said that this indeed makes them want to return ‘just to dress up as dark revan and put a purple shader on the light saber… Dual wield laser swords when?’ And, to make it clear, @0ldSnak3 just labeled it: ‘They introduced a literal Darth Revan in the game. Crazy loss for the devs.’ But then @TheSaltyKing47 was quick to correct how the customization works: ‘Shaders will not affect the color of the lightsaber. You will have to locate the crystals in different modes and activities.’ Therefore, there is a crystal hunt system for these space magic swords, which does sound quite cool if they give it the fair treatment.

What was I saying? Oh yes, the expansion itself. There’s also some uncertainty about a red darkness subclass? @Shadow_Shazz_SG was actually asking for a hint about ‘darkness element coming in the future’ and @TheTakenKnife then explained that ‘There was never going to be a red darkness subclass in Renegades… but maybe in future content of Destiny 2.’ So it looks like that is going to take a while, who knows.

Some players are so confused that they have given up on the game and its expansions. @alliyah4truth claimed they stopped playing ‘when you made it quite difficult to do solo. Used to be my favorite game. First, you changed pvp to area-based, and then made it difficult to solo play.’ And @FightinIrish808 brought up the vaulting controversy again: ‘How about it being free for those of us that bought dlcs you can’t play anymore…’ That’s a sore spot that clearly still bothers a lot of people.

However, no matter all the drama, complaints, there is still a call to arms for the community to rally together. The developers at Bungie continue to support the game across all platforms, including PlayStation and Xbox.
