Epic Games has officially informed that the Fortnite Reload Modifier Madness event would start on Saturday, November 15th, giving players a new limited-time mode to enjoy. This announcement was made through the Fortnite Twitter account, which urged the players to “prepare their calendar apps” for the truly wild gameplay experience. A new event is said to transform the popular Reload mode by adding more modifiers that would outright change the matches into crazy, unpredictable ones.
However, the announcement from the company was mainly focused on the new event but the Fortnite community immediately began to comment with mixed feelings of excitement, frustration, and demands. The players were not only talking about the new mode but they were also expressing the whole range of complaints and requests that had been gathering.
One of the most common among the players was the help request and it was mainly those who had technical problems with the ongoing tournaments. Many users claimed that the PlayStation Cup was not functioning properly. The user chaos612 bluntly asked “Is the PlayStation Cup not working for anyone else either?” and a lot of people confirmed that they were getting the same matchmaking errors. Sunshine13_17 mentioned “I am elite in battle royale …, and the other ranks higher than bronze” but still was not able to join some cups, signaling that maybe there are rank requirements that are not being properly communicated.
The discussion about sidekicks—those small companion characters—was also heated. Lots of users wanted a different treatment of the sidekicks, with JinxViPowder69 beseeching “@Fortnite How about removing the permanent appearance lock in feature from sidekicks and reducing their prices?!” Players even suggested to “bombard their social media and take part in polls and even boycott sidekicks if that is what it takes” demonstrating how much they value this cosmetic feature. Ghz33 voiced the same wish and was asking for “more unlockable emotes for our sidekicks” as the current selection feels insufficient for what the players are already paying.
Proximity chat was another hot topic, with jholland2002 recommending “@Fortnite Give us proximity chat on actual br modes, just let people turn it on and off.” The player asserted that the Delulu mode has been “most fun I’ve had in years on Fortnite” mostly due to the possibility of talking to nearby players, and that including this feature in the regular battle royale would impressively boost the game’s replayability.
Movement animations were yet another issue that fueled conflicting views, with some players turning to the hashtag #BringBackOMPP (Old Movement Animations Please). xMarioo21 posted “@Fortnite Thats cool but bring back old movement animations and pickaxe pullout from chapter 4 as an option in settings please” indicating that even the slightest changes in animation can really irritate hardcore gamers who have accustomed to the previous way of doing things.
The item shop requests also came up, with Spiderman_Hey calling for the return of Spider-Man skins with “@Fortnite Y..eah nice but put this mf back in the item shop, him and all his friends. #bringspidermanbackintheitemshop” following a crying Spider-Man meme. This demonstrates how much players value specific cosmetics and their resulting frustration when these items are not made available for a regular period of time.
A few of the comments referred to more serious issues like cheating, with rjbvcm asserting “@Fortnite Fortnite cheaters—aimbots, wallhacks, macros—taken over Fortnite. Nothing has been done.” This suggests that despite new events and content, some players feel that the core problems are not being dealt with properly.
At least one player, geometrikfr, was very lucky that the event announcement coincided perfectly with his birthday, wondering “@Fortnite On my birthday too?” which is a very nice little coincidence that makes gaming events feel more personal.
What is striking in this case is that the announcement of a specific limited-time mode turned into a broader conversation about all the player requests for changes or improvements in Fortnite. The community has undoubtedly a lot to say—everything from technical fixes to cosmetic adjustments to major feature additions—beyond just the forthcoming Reload Modifier Madness.
The event itself might end up being an utterly chaotic and amusing Reload mode that has already come a long way towards breaking the usual Fortnite formula by allowing respawns, and combining it with the addition of modifiers should create even more surprising and funny moments. However, judging by the feedback, it seems that Epic will need to address some of these player issues along with the introduction of new content.
Fortnite’s constant ability to come up with new modes and events has been majorly responsible for the game’s longevity, but the reaction to this announcement has made it clear that players are much more concerned with the core experience which they want to be perfectly smooth, fair, and filled with features they have been requesting.
