Bungie has made the announcement that the Halloween event Festival of the Lost in Destiny 2 is going to end very soon. The reset for the event will happen on November 11, Tuesday at 11:00 AM local time, after which players will have just a few days left to get the exclusive rewards before the event goes away for another year.

But what exactly is this Festival of the Lost? It is basically the yearly Halloween celebration of Destiny, a period when the Tower is covered in ugly decorations like grinning pumpkins, players are allowed to wear masks, and on top of everything else there is a special giveaway of weapons and cosmetics. The process of unlocking rewards through the Altars of Summoning activity was a long and boring task for players this year, to the point that some players even said it was an upgrade compared to last year’s players being stuck in dull lost sectors.

The community was not very clear about their opinion concerning the event’s end. Some people are actually mourning the loss of it. A guardian by the name of LindzDDub posted, “Just reached level 30 and gilded it. I’m not going to lie, switching to the Altars has been fun compared to Lost Sectors. Thanks, Bungie!!” So, at least a few players are satisfied with the game loop this time around.

In contrast, others, like the user MccurdyRiley, went so far as to say, “Never do 2-week events again, stick to 3. Thanks,” which set off a heated debate about the event’s duration in the replies. Lucifer_Doggo even supported the idea of permanently rotating events, saying, “2 weeks is best if there’s good gameplay loops. I think there should be a constant roll of events. So 2 weeks IB, 2 weeks festival and so on. The game should always have an active event to participate in.” Honestly? Not a bad idea given that the content can be quite dry in between seasons.

The weapon rewards this time around did not seem that bad overall. ZayOsirisGaming rated them saying, “Truth be told; all the weapons this year were great. I would say the weakest of the group was definitely the shotgun — but overall; THANK YOU for NOT bringing back Jurassic Green..! 😂💜” So guns were okay at least, even if some players wanted them to be better. Samson_fraser bluntly said, “Damn, maybe you could buff the guns so they aren’t shit💯” – never change Destiny community, never change.

But here is where the situation gets tricky – the holofoil weapon variants. The super shiny versions of the event weapons turned out to be extremely rare drops and those who got them were very lucky. Chingiz4269 was among the unlucky ones and shared his frustration saying: “I was unfortunate this time and did not get any holofoil version of the weapon 😮‍💨 Well, what can you do🙂” Another player, peateargri73152, was more outspoken about the matter and questioned the drop rates by saying, “why should I care when shinies are so unfathomably rare with no focusing/bad luck protection mechanic(s)” – which is a reasonable point. When the rarity of cosmetics is so high that they seem impossible to get, it really discourages the grinding motivation.

TheSaltyKing47 attempted to refute the earlier mentioned complaint by stating, “No one ever said you should. Its literally just a different skin on the weapon. Moreover, everything doesn’t need focusing or bad luck protection” – which, in fact, is a good argument. No cosmetic should be easy to get but the very fine line between rare and impossible is really hard to find.

Meanwhile, some players were already contemplating what is next. SirCosta11 was one such person and he wrote, “How many new strikes and new PvP maps in the renegades DLC?? Want to know before buying it???” and through this manner, a gamer displayed the thirst for knowledge about the future content at the time when one event has already closed.

In addition, there were some technical complaints that were mixed with the event feedback. Alexander highlighted the matchmaking issue and asked, “Genuinely curious why everything in the game has locked load outs? Remove that modifier from matchmaking please. And also give us way more lives in matchmade pinnacle ops, I almost always match with players who die instantly and waste the lives forcing me to try and solo” – which is so true, we have all been there trying to deal with the blueberries in tough content.

Kevlar_020’s complaint was about mementos and he stated, “It’s funny that we still have mementos to drop but since you removed crafting it’s almost more useless than every vendor in the game.. Either bring back crafting or make so we can use memento ON ALL WEAPON…” – another good point regarding a system that feels PlayStation and Xbox players alike.
